Oftentimes when I ask patients how much water they drink, they answer with “𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩”.

It can seem daunting to drink 2-3L of water/day if it’s not something you’re used to.

I personally have a harder time getting my water in when it’s cold out. I would much prefer to have a cozy cup of tea or warm water with lemon/lime (limes are superior IMO 😛).

We need lots of water for our bodies to function well. It helps us concentrate 🧠, helps our bowel movements stay regular 💩, and keeps our skin hydrated 🧖‍♀️.

If you’re someone who struggles with their water intake, try increasing by drinking hot or iced herbal teas (caffeine-free and unsweetened), water with fruit, lemon, lime and/or herbs to flavour.

My faves are:
Peppermint tea
Spearmint tea
Peach tea
Tulsi tea
Hibiscus tea
Hot water with lime

Only another woman can truly understand the hardships of existing as a woman in this world. I am happy and grateful to be in a position where I can make a difference in the lives of so many amazing women.

On a personal note, my mom says this is me - “I do what I want and say what I want 24/7, 365” - Mai Lee, Turning Red. And guess what, damn right I do!

So, today I want to encourage every woman, regardless of age, to be unapologetically you. Be who you want to be - live your life for YOU.

I am calling on all my fellow brown girls and women to break the boundaries that are put on us, and do what makes YOU happy.

Happy international women’s day 💜

Vitamin Spotlight ✨

VITAMIN D3

This is SUCH an important vitamin for your overall health and until recently, has been largely ignored in mainstream health.

Vitamin D deficiency can lead to:
☹️ Low mood
☹️ Fatigue
☹️ Frequent infections/difficulty fighting off infections
☹️ Poor wound healing
☹️ Low libido
☹️ Vaginal dryness
☹️ Muscle pain or weakness
☹️ Unintentional weight gain/difficulty losing weight
(and so much more)

If this sounds like you, your vitamin D levels could be the culprit (or at least a contributing factor).

🩸 GET YOUR VITAMIN D LEVELS TESTED! It’s a simple blood test and is the best way to know how much you really need. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and can build up in the body and cause harm.

Did you know that 50% of Canadians don’t have sufficient vitamin D? (This number is likely larger as it isn’t often tested!)

In fact, Health Canada recently increased the daily recommendations for vitamin D from 1000IU to 2500IU (this is huge!)

For questions about your vitamin D or your overall health, go ahead and book a free-15 minute discovery call with me ☺️

Heavy periods suck!

Oftentimes they also come with heavy cramping 🥺😖

But you don’t have to live like that! (And oral contraceptives don’t have to be the answer).

What you can do to help:
❣️Keep your dietary inflammation low. Prostaglandins cause inflammation and that leads to pain and cramping. Focusing on anti-inflammatory foods help to keep prostaglandins lower.
❣️Check your ferritin levels (iron stores). Heavy bleeding obviously will decrease your iron levels, but did you know that low ferritin can actually lead to increased bleeding and cramping?
❣️Get yourself assessed for underlying conditions. These could be symptoms of endometriosis, a condition that affects 10% of women and is very difficult to diagnose. If you think something is off, be your own advocate.
❣️Increase your fibre/ensure your liver is working well! Properly detoxing estrogen is important in reducing heavy bleeding and cramping (as well as other PMS symptoms).
❣️Reduce stress - stress makes everything worse and long-standing stress wreaks havoc on your hormones.
❣️ Work with an ND to balance your hormones without the use of synthetic hormones.

If you are suffering from this or have any questions, feel free to book a free 15 minute consult using the booking link in my linktree!

You do not have to live like this💗

Yours in health,
Dr. Murli, ND

Announcement! 📣📣

TLDR: check out the link in my bio for a Guide to Prenatal Supplements, put together by myself and .rd

Hey everyone!

Today I have some exciting news to share with you.
⠀rd (registered dietitian) and I have combined our expertise to bring you a Guide to Prenatal Supplements! 🤰

We decided to do this because in practice, it became apparent to us how many females are not aware of the differences between the different prenatal vitamin formulas on the market.

So, we put together a guide that is helpful for both *healthcare practitioners* and the *general public*.

In our guide, we present...
🌸 A comparison chart of a few of the most popular prenatal formulas on the market
🌸 Ratings on absorption, dosage, and their added ingredients
🌸 A detailed explanation some of the most important vitamins/minerals in the prenatals, including why they are needed and the differences between the various forms.

If you or anyone you know might be interested, check out the link below to purchase!
