Gynecological diseases are diseases unique to women. Treatment of some diseases, such as a menstrual cold, can be as easy as food and rest. But if left untreated, can have serious consequences such as low menstrual flow, which can develop into amenorrhea. If adnexitis is not treated promptly and effectively, it can develop into pelvic inflammation disease, fallopian tube inflammation, and even affect fertility.
When women are in a sub-healthy state, they may suffer from dysfunctional problems such as insomnia, anxiety, forgetfulness, weakness, dizziness and palpitations, loss of appetite, pale or chlorotic complexion, chloasma on the face, etc., while all indicators in the physical examination are within the normal range. At this point traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture should be used for conditioning.
TCM Herbs and acupuncture starts by regulating the Qi and blood of the organs and balancing yin and yang. This treats the body fundamentally by mobilizing its own prevention and cure mechanism to adjust the balance of our body to normal levels.
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is also a big part in our clinic.
It helps to minimize or eliminate fine lines on the face, helps to eliminate dark circles and puffy eyes, improves facial color, gives radiance and glow, lightens age spot, delays the ageing process…
Lastly, infertility is a big concern for some women. At our clinic, we have been helping numerous families conceive naturally, both in conjunction with and without conventional western IVF therapies.
The course of treatment is determined by the initial assessment, and a specialized plan suited for your individual needs will be created. This will include a series of treatments to rebalance the body back to optimal health.
Our clinic has team well trained and experienced in treating Gynecological symptoms as the following:

• Infertility
• Irregular menstruation
• Habitual abortion
• Breech baby
• Labor inducement
• Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
• Dysmenorrhea or painful periods
• Amenorrhea or absent periods
• Abdominal cramping and pain

TCM Health Tip: Achieve Emotional Balance for Fertility

TCM has addressed fertility and infertility for thousands of years. Producing a healthy, intelligent baby, requires a healthy, intelligent mother (and father, too!). A woman needs the healthiest body possible so new life can take root and grow. Having a body in balance is the best way to prevent miscarriages. The first thing a TCM practitioner does is determine if a woman’s body is out of balance and where those imbalances occur.

Generally speaking, infertility is related to the dysfunction of the Liver and the Kidney. Since it also involves the whole body’s health, other organs can be involved. One of the first priorities is to help a woman rebalance her Kidney and Liver functions and then help other organs function better.

Emotions are energetic vibrations or frequencies created by the mind. Many women underestimate the role emotions play in fertility! In TCM, the Liver is reactive to stress as well as to anger and frustration. While struggling with infertility, some women become so nervous or anxious about getting pregnant, that their bodies refuse to cooperate. Fear can also significantly impact fertility. Fear is the emotion related to the Kidney. Excessive or continual fear has a negative impact on Kidney function and fertility.

Simple tips to support Kidney and Liver health:

Find healthy ways to minimize and release fear, stress and frustration.
Rest as much as possible and don’t overwork or overextend yourself!
Eat foods beneficial for the Liver (sour foods, green foods, eggplant, broccoli, goji berries), and Kidney (salty foods, seafood, black foods, beans and nuts).

Get to the Root Cause of Allergies With TCM

Why is it that some people suffer from allergies and others don’t? It’s not luck. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, allergies are a sign from your body that one or more organs are imbalanced or have an energy deficiency. Think of it as a car engine that either needs a really good tune-up or is running low on fuel: in either case, the car is not going to run as smoothly and efficiently, with many “symptoms” indicating that something isn’t quite right. Someone with organs that are balanced, function together well and have a healthy amount of energy will not react as strongly to pollen or other allergens.

This energy deficiency can be related to several organs: the Kidney, Liver, Lung or Stomach. When the allergy is predominantly due to one organ, you’ll show more symptoms related to that specific organ. Issues with sneezing and coughing? TCM relates the nose and throat to the Lung; so your allergy is rooted in the poor Lung function. Issues with itchiness and redness in the eyes? Your allergies are rooted in poor or deficient Liver function; the Liver governs the eyes.

The season in which your allergies act up also offers clues to which organ is the culprit. Mostly in the spring? Your allergies are related to the Liver, the organ that “rules” during this season. Mostly in the fall? Your allergies are related to the Lung.

You can take allergy medicine for temporary relief, but for the long term, prevention is the cure! The best way to address allergies is to focus on strengthening your body’s Qi or vital energy, as well as supporting the organ(s) that are most deficient in energy. This means making key lifestyle adjustments and recognizing when your body is running low on Qi: for example, feeling more tired in the afternoon and fatigued with little exertion, overworking your body and mental strength, all of which sap your vital Qi and cause fatigue and other symptoms. Classical Chinese medicine herbs and acupuncture are powerful healing tools that help increase and balance the body’s internal energy supply and strengthen organ function.

Diet is also an important healing strategy. In terms of allergies, its twofold job is to alleviate any condition caused by internal cold, which can also sap your energy and unbalance the state of your body and its organs, as well as to revitalize the organs that need support. Add warming ginger or cinnamon to your diet whenever possible; avoid foods that have a cold temperature or essence; don’t excessively eat salads or raw vegetables; don’t drink tons of cold water or sugary pop. Instead, add healing foods in spring that support the Liver (like salmon, scallions, eggplant, broccoli, dandelion greens, etc.) and in fall, the Lung (like pears, almonds, chickpeas).

By following these dietary and lifestyle strategies on a daily basis, you can help your body conserve or “bank” your Qi throughout the year and address the root case of your allergies! You don’t have to accept allergies as being a part of your “normal”; in fact, they are a symptom from your body that deeper imbalances are present that may lead to even more uncomfortable ailments in the future. We all know that if you don’t fill up your car when the tank is near empty, you will definitely run into car trouble later. Pay the same attention to yourself. Take steps today not just to feel better and stop suffering from pesky allergies, but also to improve your overall health and prevent more serious disease from entering your body.

In Tune With Nature’s Flow

Are you in tune with the rhythm of Nature?

During the past few weeks, Nature has been transitioning from the heat of Late Summer to the cool, crisp weather of Autumn. Other than temperature changes, have you noticed the subtleties of Fall?

The gentle swishing sound of wind blowing Summer leaves has given way to the rustling of dry leaves nearing the end of their life cycles. As leaves gather into piles, the crunch under our feet is reminiscent of the crisp, refreshing air. The sun is now setting earlier and the hue of its colors has transformed, much like the crimson and gold colors that grace the changing treetops. Animals are gathering food and planning for their hibernation and migration. Every part of Nature is beginning its preparation for the winter slowdown.

Nature provides the best example of seasonal change. It’s everywhere you look! Can you follow suit?

Humans were once entirely connected to Nature—dependent on it for daily survival. As generations have become accustomed to modern conveniences, we seek food, water and shelter in other places. Nature has become a refuge, but not a necessity to many. When we find ourselves connecting with Nature, we immediately recover that sense of harmony and peacefulness that somehow got lost in the scheme of a busy schedule. These connections remind us that we truly are an integral part of the Universal picture. The transformations of Nature’s landscape echo the transformations happening within ourselves.

Like the trees releasing their leaves, the Fall season teaches us to let go! As part of a daily practice, begin to release grudges, possessions and emotions that no longer serve you. As you do, recover your inner freedom. Begin to express yourself as Nature does in color, movement, simplicity and rhythm.

Fall Health From an Energetic Perspective

Fall is the time of the year when your Lung energy is dominant. At this time, you may see many people suffering from lung issues, like hay fever, asthma, and allergies. As beautiful as the season is, there are many people who dread the Fall season, primarily because they anticipate health issues at this time of the year. While we are all conditioned to focus on the negative—the symptoms—there’s a different way to look at health—a way that’s not so negative.

TCM approaches life and healing in an interconnected way. It looks at each individual, not only for symptoms, but for the things we experience and take in emotionally and spiritually. We are not just humans that exist in our own separate entities. We are connected beings, tied to each other and to Nature as a whole. The Five Element chart gives us a framework to understand our bodies from an energetic perspective, realizing that our health is impacted not only by what we put into it, but by what we do to support it.

Taking on the view of prevention rather than treatment, we use the Five Element Framework to get a larger sense of what’s happening around us in each season and to see how those changes impact our bodies. We can look at each season as a way to connect to and support the organ in charge. In Fall, Lung energy is at its highest. So, Fall is the best time to support and clean up the Lung. To do so, we recommend supporting the Lung from many different angles:

Taste: Try eating pungent and spicy foods, like daikon radish, lemon, and ginger.
In Season: Eat foods that are grown in the Fall, and as locally and as fresh as possible. This will help renew your connection to Mother Earth.
Moisture: Dryness is often associated with the Fall season and Lung energy. Think about your skin and hair. Does your skin get dry and begin to crack in the Fall and early Winter? Try eating honey and pears to add moisture to your body. Almonds and almond milk also give your Lung an energetic boost.
Music: The Lung resonates with the beating sound of the drum or trumpet. Try putting some music on and dancing to the beat. Be fluid and go with the flow.
Color: The color white supports the Lung. Wear it and notice it all around you!
Let It Go: Fall teaches us to simply relax and let go as the trees so easily shed their beautiful leaves. Start small. Learn to let things go one at a time.

Remember one thing: As you read this, the information is still in your mind. You’re thinking and processing it. But to impact your life, you have to embrace it and feel it. Love and believe in yourself. Connect to Nature and discover who you are. Your Lung does a lot for you throughout your life. Fall is the time to begin taking good care of yourself.

You Come First

You create your own reality. Or, in a nutshell, life is what you make of it. Everyone has responsibilities. Whether that entails caring for others, earning a living or paying bills, we all share some sort of mutual “to-do list”. Let’s put those shared responsibilities on the shelf, if only for a moment, and look at what remains. To start, health, happiness and love.

These three factors are of utmost importance to a healthy lifestyle, but many of us push them off for later. “I’ll sleep later. Healthy food can wait. I’m happy…enough.” Have you heard those statements? Or maybe you’ve said them yourself. Many of us take our health and happiness for granted. We feel good so we continue to push through exhaustion to get more accomplished. Knowing that the house is quiet at 5am, we wake early to prepare meals for the following day. And we rush through meals and grab a quick energy drink when the afternoon slump sets in.

We seem to think that if we get everything done today, tomorrow will be a day to rest and recharge. But there will be more to do tomorrow. There will always be things to do. Don’t put yourself off until tomorrow. Your health, your happiness and your self-love come first. You come first. Take time today and every day to stop and breathe. Be kind to yourself and to those around you. Thank yourself for the good that you bring into the world. Allow your Heart to be peaceful and free.

The Importance of Qi to Health and Healing

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based upon the “three Q's” of heaven, earth and humanity. All three are related—humans are just one part of the overall web of energy that weaves everything in the Universe together.

Within the body, TCM is more concerned with the function of each organ, than with the physical organ itself. This ancient system understands that all physical problems emanate from Qi that is out of harmony. For each of your body’s organs to function well, their individual Qi must flow freely. So for a healthy body to function at its potential, all organs must work in harmony. Qi is used to describe each organ’s energetic function. For example, if you wake up frequently to urinate, your Kidney Qi is deficient. Your physical organ may look and act just fine, but on an invisible, energetic level, the Kidney does not have enough power to send the right message to your bladder to hold this water until morning.

How Does Qi Work?

When we pass, the physical parts of us remain, but our life force—our Qi—is gone. Qi gives everything life. Without it, there is neither growth nor change, but this animating power is just one side of Qi. Qi is usually translated into English as “energy,” but this force also encompasses intelligence and function. Of these forces—power, intelligence, function—the last two are the most important.

Each of your body’s organs has its own Qi, its own function and purpose. Like a television set, your body needs power to operate. It must be plugged into an energy source. Yet to receive a clear picture—for the body to function well and to be healthy—each component has to work well on its own. Then each part must also work in harmony with the whole.

Your body’s organs are like television channels; each has its own frequency. If the frequency of the channel is wrong, the television can’t display a good picture, no matter how much energy is given. A problem with one channel or part will ultimately affect the function of all the others. Likewise, if an organ isn’t functioning properly, the body will start to display physical symptoms. And if that imbalance is not corrected, the rest of the body will begin to overcompensate, thereby weakening the entire system. Simply stated, even with plenty of power, the right information may not be going where it is needed. The power of Qi needs the intelligence or function of Qi to give it direction.

An Interconnected Whole

TCM looks at the human body, Nature, and the Universe itself as interconnected whole systems linked by Qi with all internal systems functioning in harmony. The nature of one thing is understood in relation to other things around it. We are indeed part of Nature. We are not separate or apart from it.

TCM does not focus on the problem or symptom, but looks at the human body as an interconnected web. For example, a headache is not just viewed as a pain in the head area; it is a symptom of a larger energetic imbalance. Instead of simply treating the headache, TCM uses the Five Element Framework to get to the root of the imbalance. Once the root cause is treated, the symptom disappears. All of TCM points to this simple wisdom: When a body is in balance, dis-ease cannot enter.

Optimism: A Rosy Colored View

According to Merriam-Webster, optimism is defined as “a feeling or belief that good things will happen in the future.”

Most people use the ‘glass half full’ analogy to describe an optimist. What is an optimist like anyway?

An optimist wakes up happy, looking at life as an adventure to be savored. Sure there are thorns along the way—they are merely bumps that come with the complete picture of life. But an optimist meanders past the thorns, focusing instead on the reward of the sweet-smelling roses.

An optimist faces a problem as a challenge to overcome—something to learn and grow from. Why live—one might say—if not to learn, grow, and change?

Rosy colored glasses…glass half full—whatever you use to describe an optimist, know that a positive attitude can take you far. Even when life seems impossibly hard, there’s still room for a smile (and a bit of friendly optimism). It might just change your outlook. And sometimes, a change in perspective is all we need to brighten our day.
Did you know?

Smiling can keep your Heart forever young! It creates positive emotional Qi and propels it throughout the body. In Summer, the season of the Heart, take some time to be peaceful and invite love into your life. What’s the perfect way to begin? Look at yourself and smile. Be proud of who you are and what you have accomplished. Know that you are on your journey to discover your own inner happiness. So, go ahead. Flash yourself a smile. Nurture yourself with happiness, love, and a steady dose of optimism.

Tips for Late Summer Balance

Late Summer is the shortest of all seasons, lasting only a handful of weeks. However, its importance is paramount! Think of what happens in Nature during this time of year. There is one last burst of growth before Earth prepares for harvest time. During this time, we take in, nurture ourselves and one another and find time to be still and find our center.
Try these tips to achieve a better state of Stomach and Spleen balance this season:

1. Eat Seasonal Produce: Farmer’s markets are in full-swing in late summer, with produce (often organic) that is locally grown. Give up meat for a week, and instead stock up on fresh fruits and veggies. Peruse the recipe section of our Website for guidance or get creative on your own. Why not grill some cauliflower or chop up an avocado and mango salad? See where your creativity takes you!

2. Nurture Yourself and Others: Shower yourself and those around you with positive, loving thoughts. Try something new (take a sculpture class or paint a bench for your garden) and watch yourself blossom! Or take a road trip to an interesting location. Think about why you chose this place and how it may help you connect to your deeper self.

3. Get Lost in Nature: We are often so busy in our daily routines that we lose sight of our deep connection to Nature and Spirit. Take some time each day to walk in Nature. Find something in Nature that captures your attention and study it intently. Recognize that everything in Nature is an energy being, just as you are. Let that connection flood your being.

4. Don’t Worry, Be Happy! Worry greatly impacts Stomach and Spleen function. When you come to a worrisome situation, take a step back and breathe deeply. Try to look at the situation from a different perspective. Find a reason to smile.

Life Lessons from Bamboo

Last week, we celebrated the arrival of Summer. From a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, we transitioned from Spring, the Liver season, to Summer, the season of the Heart. In Spring, we embrace the spirit of Wood energy. This is the season when all of Nature bursts forth with life. Wood is representative of the trees. They are firm and rooted in Earth, yet flexible and able to move with the breeze. Bamboo is one such woody plant. It reminds us to stay grounded and remain flexible in body, mind, and spirit.

Like any plant, bamboo requires water, fertile soil and sunshine in order to reach its potential. However, for four years after the bamboo seed is planted, nothing is visible above the earth—all of its growth takes place underground. A massive root structure forms and spreads deep and wide in the earth. Then, in the fifth year, the bamboo bursts out of the ground, growing up to 80 feet tall!

Bamboo embraces the true feeling of Spring. Often, when we transition into Summer, we lose sight of the recent growth that took place in Nature. This transition also takes place in each and every one of us. So as Nature transitions to the long, fiery days of Summer, remember the energy of Spring. Envision yourself as a bamboo seed. You have been spreading your firm root system for many years. You are ready now. It is now your time to burst forth and grow. And when you reach your potential, stand tall, knowing that your firm footing will prepare you for whatever life may throw at you.
