September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Month. 🌬️

The name itself tells the story:
Idiopathic – the cause is unknown
Pulmonary – it affects the lungs
Fibrosis – it causes scarring of lung tissue

IPF is a chronic lung disease. Confirming IPF can be challenging because no single test can diagnose it. This month, let’s take a moment to build more awareness around it and support those affected. 💙

International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31. On this day, we acknowledge the lives lost and call for change to prevent further deaths. The overdose crisis is not just about one drug or one group of people. All drugs can cause an overdose, including medication prescribed by a doctor. The Dufferin Area Family Health Team is currently recruiting for two (2) full-time Nurse Practitioners to join our team - one in Orangeville and one in Shelburne. The Nurse Practitioners’ responsibilities will consist of all aspects of being a Primary Health Care Provider, consultant, educator and advocate. They will collaborate with physicians and other interdisciplinary providers by participating in chronic disease management, health promotion and disease prevention programs.

Ontario is expanding its publicly funded Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) prevention program to include everyone aged 75 years and older.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀:

• certain high-risk adults aged 60 to 74
• infants up to eight months of age in their first RSV season
• high-risk children up to 24 months of age
• pregnant women

This expansion helps protect those most vulnerable during the RSV season, keeping Ontario families and communities safe and healthy.
