Our Story
The Gauthier family purchased Dods & McNair, along with their family home beside it, in 1988 on the corner of First St. and Second Ave. in Orangeville, Ontario. We operated out of the original small building from 1988 until 1997 when we did our first expansion. The expansion provided us with a much larger building to meet the needs of our growing community. We implemented 2 more parking lots around the Orangeville funeral homes exterior, built in a way that would allow us to expand yet again in the future.
In 2007 we began the planning stages for the expansion by hiring an architect to design the project. In order to accomplish this monumental task, the family home was ‘knocked down’ in October of 2011. It was sad and really hard to see the family home go. We did look at other properties to possibly build a new facility, but after much consideration it made more sense to stay right where we are, as the funeral home has existed in this location since the 1930’s. We broke ground on April 1st, 2012 and the funeral homes expansion was completed in September of the same year.
The funeral home expansion features a modern, tastefully decorated 200 seat chapel with state of the art audio and visual equipment that is linked to the reception centre below, which we have doubled in size making it more comfortable and accommodating for large gatherings.
The purpose of the Memorial Forest is to provide an opportunity to commemorate the life of a loved one, in a special way, by having a tree planted- a Living Memorial. Each tree in this natural forest will be in memory of one who has lived. A tree symbolizes strength, shelter and durability and planting a tree is a symbol of hope, a sign of a new beginning and a living tribute. It will be a source of comfort and meaning to those who have suffered a loss and help ease them through a difficult time. This program is not restricted to these served by Dods & McNair Funeral Home and Chapel. Everyone is invited to participate.
