Welcome to my Athletic Therapy page! First off- I am not a Physiotherapist but this page did not have Athletic Therapy listed as an option therefore I chose the closest thing to me and my profession. So, what am I then... I am an ATHLETIC THERAPIST (AT) and most recently a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) :) Athletic Therapists are similar to physiotherapists in a clinic setting, but we come from two different schools and can not legally be termed the same- Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession and Athletic Therapist is not... YET!
The biggest difference between the two profession is our First Responder qualifications for sporting events. Taping, Bracing, Concussion recognition/management and return to play decisions. In the clinic we are very similar, with being able to assess injuries, use modalities (Ultrasound, TENS, NMES, IFC, ice/heat ect) and use our hands for manual therapy. Athletic Therapy was a profession that was created for the injuries occurring to athletes during sporting events, and have expanded and evolved into the clinical setting and the general everyday injuries. NO, you don't have to be an athlete to see me! But if you are an athlete, I am trained in return to play rehab to get you back to where you need to be!
I also treat animals!!! I have used my knowledge of human rehab and applied it to my four legged friends. I have successfully rehabbed a canine ACL surgery and my horse that had back surgery. Both animals are doing fantastic and I had a blast working with them! A little more about me; - I graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy) from Sheridan College in 2012. - I moved to Halifax, NS for two years working Equestrian events as a field athletic therapist, and in a clinic setting. - I was the head athletic therapist for the Acadia University football team 2013 season. - I moved back to ontario in 2014 and currently work at TWO awesome Physiotherapy clinic’s. One in Aurora 2 days a week and the other is Headwaters Physiotherapy in Orangeville 3 days. - I was apart of the 2015 Pan Am games medical team for the Equestrian Athletes.
- I am an animal lover! I own a horse, dog and a bunny- Melody, Zoey and Mary. HOURS: Monday and Thursday RMT/AT - AURORA
