🌱Happy international day of the midwife! I am a huge advocate for midwifery care both personally and professionally. Jessica and Laura will always hold a special place in our hearts having brought both our babies safely into this world.

Due to bleeding issues, I needed to have a few people on my team when it came to deliveries BUT hands down, the ones who made me feel the safest, most confident and most cared for were my midwives. I am forever grateful ❤️

🌱 A life and practice update!

Good news first.. Taylor and I are so excited to announce that Vera will be getting a baby brother in the fall! I'll be posting details soon re. a short maternity leave beginning in September.
Secondly, I want to thank everyone who voted for Orillia's Readers Choice Awards again this year! Although I am late to post, I soo appreciate this support from our community.

As some of you may know, I have been taking a step back from taking on new patients in the last few months. Our family has had a tough time with my father-in-law in the hospital struggling with early onset Alzheimer's. There are no words to describe how difficult and heartbreaking this has been for everyone. From a personal health point, after experiencing an early miscarriage in the fall and an ongoing battle with migraines, I can't say that it has been easy to keep everything balanced.

I want to thank everyone for their patience with rescheduled/cancelled visits. I am so thankful that I have such wonderful patients and coworkers and do not take for granted how understanding everyone has been.

I will continue to treat patients throughout the summer and into early September with the goal to begin taking on new patients again in January /February 2024.

Life is often complicated. These past few months have been some our hardest, saddest, happiest and most.. complicated. I am thankful for all of the support and I wish everyone a happy and relaxing summer ahead! 🌱

🌱Hello and welcome 2022!

I struggle to say Happy New Year at the beginning of this post as I am sure that there are some mixed emotions as we move into 2022.
With restrictions, mandates and more uncertainty, our ability to adapt and mitigate symptoms of burnout is understandably difficult. In spite of this, in the last 2 years, I have seen more kindness, gratitude and an outstanding level of resilience amongst my patients, friends, family and community.

🌱I am deeply thankful to be able to continue growing my practice as a Naturopathic Doctor and I am looking forward to another year of serving this community.
I don't know what this year has in store but I am going to continue to do my best to show up for my patients with integrity and hope and I look forward to sunny, snowy days ahead.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maggie Ackert, ND

🌱 My social media posts are inconsistent to say the least.. But some issues are too important not to comment, especially I can share a post that does such a beautiful job at summarizing my thoughts on vaccine mandates. Take a minute, it's worth the read🌱

Posted • As a vaccinating Naturopathic Doctor in British Columbia, my discussions about vaccines with patients is simply that: a discussion. I do not coerce, shame, force or mandate.

While I support vaccination and the access to, what I do not support is mandating a medical procedure upon a human body.

The core issue is informed consent and the liberty to say no. By saying no, you take the risk of what happens when you say no. Decisions on what you do is and always should be a personal decision. You bear the risk of your choices - either to do or not to do.

I stand by body autonomy and always will. The freedom to choose or not to choose. Once we agree that you do not have a choice, other medical mandates will be easier to pass. So the line is drawn to opposing the entire idea to mandate so that I, and any other healthcare practitioner can fulfill their duty of achieving full informed consent.

With passing and approving mandates, you as the practitioner no longer will be fulfilling this duty nor upholding your oath of Doctor as Teacher and to First Do No Harm.

Your health, your way.

I became a Doctor because of my passion for helping people, healing and teaching and I believe Naturopathic Medicine is the best way to achieve those goals. Naturopathic Medicine combines recent health research with traditional forms of natural medicine.

We focus on the fundamentals, meaning:

  • Listening and taking the time to connect with each patient in order to see them as individuals
