The Power of Working Together to Advance Equity and Inclusion 🤝

On November 20, 2025, more than 100 leaders and changemakers gathered at Ferndale Banquet Hall for a hands-on, interactive conference focused on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDI&B).

This event—planned in partnership with OSMH and the Child, Youth & Family Services Coalition of Simcoe County—was designed to fuel the next steps in our community’s EDI&B journey. Through peer knowledge sharing, lived experience speakers, and industry case studies, participants explored how to embed EDI&B into strategic and operational planning and service delivery.

As healthcare providers, OSMH is humbled to be part of this conversation. Living our values means stepping beyond hospital walls to work alongside community partners, ensuring that those who are most vulnerable in our system are supported with equity and inclusion at the forefront.

When we collaborate, we don’t just share ideas—we create solutions that matter. Together, we are stronger. Together, we lead change.

Thank you to all the incredible organizations who made this day possible:
Catulpa Community Support Services | Children’s Treatment Network | County of Simcoe Local Immigration Partnership | Empower Simcoe | Gilbert Centre | New Path Youth & Family Services | Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions

OSMH surgical program doubles down on quality, earning second consecutive international recognition.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) has once again achieved international recognition for excellence in surgical care, earning prestigious recognition as a Meritoriously Performing Hospital from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) for the second year in a row.

This distinction places OSMH among an elite group of 76 hospitals worldwide that demonstrated outstanding surgical quality and patient safety outcomes in 2024. The award evaluates performance across eight critical areas, including mortality, cardiac complications, pneumonia, surgical site infections, and other key indicators of surgical success.

“Once again, OSMH’s surgical specialties are being recognized for the exceptional quality and safety of our surgical outcomes, alongside an impressive international group of high performing hospitals,” said Dr. Joshua Greenberg, OSMH NSQIP Surgeon Champion.

“Being recognized on this list for a second consecutive year really underscores the incredible ongoing commitment to surgical excellence at OSMH, and confirms that despite the increasing number and complexity of operations being carried out here in Orillia, the safety and well-being of each and every patient who undergoes surgery at OSMH remains front and center in our approach to surgical care”

It has been over 35 years since the murder of 14 young women a Polytechnique Montreal (December 6, 1989). This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

On December 6th, we remember:
Geneviève Bergeron
Hélène Colgan
Nathalie Croteau
Barbara Daigneault
Anne-Marie Edward
Maud Haviernick
Maryse Laganière
Maryse Leclair
Anne-Marie Lemay
Sonia Pelletier
Michèle Richard
Annie St-Arneault
Annie Turcotte
Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz

As we mourn their loss and remember their lives, we reaffirm our commitment to fight the hatred that led to this tragedy, and the misogyny that still exists today.

Carmine Stumpo, President and CEO of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) will be stepping down from the position he’s held for the past 7 and a half years and has accepted a new leadership role as President and CEO of Mackenzie Health, a regional health provider serving western York Region and beyond. Stumpo will remain in his current position at OSMH until April 2, 2026.

“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have someone with Carmine’s skillset and capability during such a critical time in our hospital’s history,” said Lawrence Pietras, Chair of the OSMH Board of Directors.

“From his thoughtful leadership through the pandemic to his purposeful determination to bring a new hospital to Orillia, Carmine has consistently delivered to make our hospital, and our community, a better place.”

Pietras also points to advancements in community partnerships, working hand in hand with the Couchiching Ontario Health Team to better coordinate care; entering into a Letter of Relationship with the Indigenous Health Circle in 2023 and working with the University of Toronto to bring a Family Medicine Teaching Unit to Orillia, as additional successes under Carmine’s watch.

“Serving this organization is truly a privilege,” said Stumpo. “Every day, I draw inspiration from the incredible team of professionals here at Soldiers’. Their resilience, compassion and determination make this place so special.”

“I am thankful to the Board who placed their trust in me, and incredibly proud of what the hospital team has accomplished.”

The OSMH Board has initiated a recruitment process for his successor.

Thank you!!🥰

There are truly not enough words to share our gratitude to everyone who supported our Giving Tuesday Campaign 💜

We are thrilled to announce that an incredible $129,000 was raised for Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, making it our most successful Giving Tuesday to date!

We would like to express our gratitude to McGregor on the Water and the Csumrik family for their generous matching donation of up to $25,000.

On behalf of our wonderful hospital team, we would like to thank our generous communities for supporting healthcare close to home.

Double your donation today 💜

McGregor on the Water has generously donated $25,000 to match donations made to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital this Giving Tuesday.

Donations support the vital purchases and upgrades of medical equipment. Our patients, just like 4-year-olds Logan and Cali, rely on OSMH to provide them with the best care possible when they need it most. That's where your donations make the difference.

Laura, Cali and Logan's mother, is so grateful for the care her daughters receive at Soldiers'.

“We have never forgotten the care and compassion shown to us during a very emotional time and we want to give back to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.”

Double the babies, double the donation today!

Thank you to McGregor on the Water & the Csumrik family for matching all donations to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Giving Tuesday 💜

Give today to support families, like the Csumrik's, when they need excellent care close to home https://osmhfoundation.ca/?form=give

“The level of care and compassion we received from the nurses and doctors was unbelievable. My girls would not be here without them.”

In 2021, at the height of the pandemic, Laura Csumrik’s twin girls, Logan and Cali, were born seven weeks prematurely via emergency c-section. The twins stayed in the NICU at OSMH for a month, where they were able to build their strength.

"I can still remember the way their oxygen tubes, heart monitors, and feeding tubes needed to be placed just exactly right in order for me to hold them," Laura said. "These machines were keeping our babies alive until they could grow strong enough to do it on their own."
