From 6% to the Frontline.

Thirty years ago, medical care was built on a “default” model that largely overlooked female physiology. In the mid-90s, women were the minority in almost every doctoral medical program in Canada, and they were included in as little as 6% of sports science research.

Representation isn’t just a metric—it’s the key to better data. As more women enter the field, the “standard” is changing. We are finally asking better questions about female-specific biomechanics, hormonal health, and recovery patterns.

At Back to Function, our team of 11 practitioners includes 8 women leading the way in evidence-based care. We are proud to be part of a generation that is ensuring medical data actually reflects the community we serve.

Over the past 40+ years, we’ve been fortunate to be part of some incredible Olympic journeys.

The credit belongs to the athletes — their commitment, resilience, and belief carried them there.

We’re proud to have played a small role along the way, including supporting Huntsville’s Dara Howell on her journey to Olympic gold medal in Sochi in 2014; and now cheering on the future with Megan Oldham, a Parry Sound native who honed her skills at Mount St. Louis.

We’re grateful for the trust placed in us, and for the opportunity to continue supporting athletes and our community with the same care and standards.

There’s nothing quite like the energy of a winter race morning… runners, amiright? ❄️🏃‍♂️

We had an absolute blast being part of the 34th Snowflake Series this year. From start line jitters to finish-line smiles, the energy was unreal.

We loved meeting so many of you at our booth. Whether it was chatting recovery tips, talking through injury questions, or helping you feel your best after crossing the finish line.

A huge thank you to the organizers and to every runner who braved the cold. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
