They’re watching.
The longer I mother, the more I realize our children are watching everything.
They’re watching the way we care for ourselves - the moments we choose rest, the way we fuel our bodies, the words we speak about ourselves, the way we love ourselves.
They’re watching the way we love our partners - the way we speak to them, respect them, the gentleness towards them, the everyday acts of care.
They’re watching the way we enjoy life - pursuing joy, passions, and remembering that we are whole people too.
They’re watching the way we treat others - how we speak to strangers, how we live in community, how we set boundaries, give, and receive.
And as they watch, they’re learning.
Learning what love looks like.
Learning what respect feels like.
Learning how to live a full and wonderful life.
It’s a heavy weight sometimes, isn’t it? To know little eyes are always on us. But it’s also a sacred gift… a beautiful burden and assignment - to shape the way our children will one day walk through the world.
No wonder motherhood is hard, it refines us and makes us a better version of ourselves not just for us as parents but also for our children. I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m so grateful for who they have helped me become.
