We’ve all had days where focus is hard to find. Deadlines pile up, sleep is off, stress is high, and suddenly your brain feels slower than usual.

Across different stages of life, cognitive changes can show up in different ways. Understanding what’s behind these changes matters. Early, accurate cognitive assessment can help distinguish between normal stress responses and conditions that benefit from targeted support, such as ADHD, the effects of brain injury, or age-related cognitive change.

At Durham Region Centre for Cognitive Health, we help individuals and families get clear answers, not guesswork.

Because clarity is the first step toward meaningful support.

Misplacing your keys? That can be normal.
Forgetting what a key is used for? That’s a red flag.

Memory changes aren’t one-size-fits-all. The difference between normal aging and early dementia often comes down to how memory is affected, not just that it’s affected.

At the Durham Region Centre for Cognitive Health, our memory and cognitive testing helps provide clarity, reassurance, and next steps when questions arise.

Early answers matter.

Evidence-based assessments are available with clear explanations you can understand. Book your FREE consultation today.

or years, we’ve been told ADHD looks like a hyperactive boy who can't sit still. But for women and girls, the struggle is often invisible. In childhood, boys are diagnosed significantly more often because their symptoms are typically loud and disruptive.

The gap only starts to close in adulthood, not because the ADHD appears out of nowhere, but because the pressure of adult life finally breaks the 'mask.' Women often spend years using pure willpower to appear organized and 'together' (Professional Masking). But when you add the complexities of a career, mortgage, or parenting, that internal system collapses. They don't 'get' ADHD at 30; they finally hit a wall where they can no longer hide it. This is why we see a massive surge in women seeking assessments later in life.

ADHD isn’t a lack of discipline; it’s a matter of biology. We need to stop judging the behaviour and start understanding the brain.
