One of the ways that we improve blood flow and reduce stagnation in the body is through cupping. We use two different types of cups at our clinic - silicone and glass (fire cupping).

Silicone cups are especially useful for ‘moving cupping’, where oil is used to allow the cups to  glide over the skin while suctioned.

With fire cupping, a flame is used to quickly heat the inside of the cup and the difference in temperature creates suction when it is applied to the skin.  What results is a slightly stronger suction with subtle warmth. 

Cupping can be an effective treatment for pain, tension, and inflammation.

Today marks the one year anniversary of Haven Healthcare!

Opening a business in the middle of a global pandemic is not for the faint of heart, but I couldn’t be happier with what this year has brought me as a clinic owner and as a clinician.

From the first month of opening, I have been really surprised at the number of new patients coming through the door, eager to experience acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

As we approach the first weekend after a hesitant return to work and online learning, I challenge you all to reflect on this first week back to responsibilities new and old. What did you find challenging? Was this transition harder or easier than you expected?

Most importantly, what are you doing for YOURSELF to make sure you have the mental and physical resiliency to tackle the next week?

This year, I want you all to think more about the idea of "self care". Most of us give and give and give, draining our batteries and leaving us running on fumes. If you do not make time for self care, the ability to give yourself to others lessens. For 2022, allow yourself moments to give back to YOU. Keep yourself strong by caring for yourself. 💪

Our cupping sessions often deliver promising results, both immediate and short-term. However, it is a practice that can be met with hesitation, as it is not a well-known form of pain relief.

Cupping - for those who aren't aware - is a practice in which silicone or glass spheres are suctioned to increase blood flow and circulation to certain areas of the body, triggering a release of physical tension. It is common for the cups to leave suction marks on the surface of the skin, and this is completely normal. It is the body's reaction to the increase in blood flow and these marks (or lack thereof) are actually diagnostic. Your practitioner can assess the colour and intensity to confirm the degree and underlying causes of stagnation in the body. With further treatment, the intensity of the marks tend to fade as that stagnation is reduced.
