Do you meditate? You should!

Research suggests that meditation can result in functional cortical change and improved quality of life. In today’s fast paced world, take some time for introspection and relaxation. For me, that involves deep breathing and focusing on my heart rate. Try it for 40 days!

A study in Scientific Reports has helped reinforce our understanding of how meditation and mindfulness affect change in the structure and functioning of ...

Dear nurses,

You take care of us throughout our lifespan starting before we are even born. You care for our mental health, medical emergencies, palliative care needs and show us empathy in times of need.

Our hospitals don’t function without you. Our sick don’t get better without you. Our vaccine efforts are obsolete without you. Thank you nurses. Thank you for everything you do to keep Canadians healthy 🙏

Ever wonder what that “cracking” or “popping” sound is when your chiropractor adjusts you?

It occurs through a process called tribonucleation where a gas filled cavity is rapidly formed within a fluid filled space when two opposing surfaces separate past a critical point that allows distance to form between them and a cavity to develop. This is why you will hear chiropractors refer to the cracking sound as a “cavitation.”

Check out the real-time MRI results of a knuckle cavitating.

“Doc, my back is out of place. I need you to adjust me back into alignment” is a classic sentence I hear all the time in the office.

Although it might feel that way, your joints are not actually “out of place” anatomically and something much less sinister is likely happening. The sensation you feel involves the complex interplay between the joints, joint capsule, ligaments, muscles and nervous system that surround the area of concern.

Listen to Dr. O’Guin explain how spinal manipulation can help and tune in next time to see a video of a joint popping in real time!

This video is about Do bones really go out of place? (What really happens when you have your spine adjusted?A common misconception is that chiropractors put...

Pain is a multifactorial experience.

Greg Lehman’s cup analogy can help you understand your personal pain experience and identify factors that impact your relationship with pain. Your cup doesn’t need to be empty but it shouldn’t be overfilled either!

1) What stressors fill your cup? (social, physical, economic, etc).
2) How can you decrease the stressors in your cup that contribute towards pain?
3) How can you build a bigger and more robust cup to manage stress?

Be good to yourself - manage the stressors you can control and be aware of the ones you cannot.

Pain is not always straightforward. Its is influenced by a number of factors and stressors in your life. This simple cup analogy for pain explains just som...
