This Black History Month, we honor the brilliance, resilience, and impact of Black voices—past, present, and future. Black history isn’t just history; it’s culture, innovation, leadership, and power that continue to shape the world every day. Backwards Day is celebrated annually on January 31st, encouraging people to break routines by doing things in reverse or opposite to the norm, such as wearing clothes backward, eating dessert first, or saying "goodbye" as a greeting. Today, we mark the National Day of Remembrance to honour the six people whose lives were lost in the January 29, 2017 attack at the Québec City mosque. We also recognize the lasting impact this act of violence has had on families, colleagues, and communities across Canada. Addressing Islamophobia—and all forms of hate—requires ongoing awareness, accountability, and action in our workplaces and communities. Remembrance is not only about reflection, but about reinforcing our responsibility to foster environments where everyone feels valued and protected.

Today, on International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, we pause to remember the millions of lives lost and reflect on the lessons of history. In remembering the victims of the Holocaust, we affirm our shared humanity and pledge to defend the dignity and human rights of all.
