September marks , a time to recognize that pain, in all its forms, is complex and often invisible. Pain is a real and personal experience that deserves understanding, compassion and support.

On our blog, we share Suraj’s experience living with invisible pain caused by somatization. His story highlights the importance of compassion, awareness and belief. For many children and youth, pain like his often goes unnoticed because it doesn’t match usual expectations.

As we step into the back-to-school season, we understand how difficult transitions can be. For many young people, the shift into adulthood can be especially challenging. At Grandview Kids, we are here to support that journey through our Adolescent Transition Program. This program offers essential support to families as they begin to age out of paediatric services.

Here is a quote from Grandview Kids Graduate and Sam K.:

“As a former client and now a member of the Family Engagement team working as a peer navigator, I take great pride in my role. Alongside my co-peer navigator, it is my responsibility to bring lived experience to one of the most challenging processes faced by people with special needs and their caregivers: the transition into adulthood.

Through the Adolescent Transition Program, we plan and deliver events designed for both youth and their caregivers. One of the most rewarding parts of this job is seeing youth connect at social events, forming lasting friendships, and witnessing caregivers come together to share information that supports them on their journey as they help their youth move toward adulthood.

Having gone through this process myself, I have the honour of using my experience to support others navigating this transition. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that while the process is never easy, those moving into adulthood are never alone.”

Earlier this summer, the Family Engagement team hosted its third woodwork workshop for families in the Complex Care Clinic at Grandview Kids. This fun, hands-on event gave clients the opportunity to build their own creations and spend quality time with peers.

The kits were generously provided by Home Depot, thanks to the initiative of a Complex Care parent who helped make it all possible. With tools in hand and plenty of enthusiasm, families came together to create, connect and share special moments. We are grateful for the continued support that helps bring these meaningful experiences to life.

Interoception is the sense that helps us notice internal body signals such as hunger, thirst, temperature or the need to use the washroom. Developing interoceptive awareness means learning to connect these body cues to specific feelings, which can vary from person to person.

On the Grandview Kids blog, occupational therapist Samantha M. shares strategies families can use in daily routines to support interoceptive awareness at home.

August 26 is , a day to celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesh, the Hindu deity known for his wisdom, intelligence, protection and ability to remove obstacles. During the festival, clay idols of Lord Ganesh, easily recognized by his elephant head, are placed in homes and public spaces.

The celebration includes music, dance, prayer and communal feasts, with traditional sweets like modak and ladoo offered in worship.
