FEATURE FRIDAY!

Introducing one of our most frequent flyers - Jessica! This sweet girl seems to always find a way to come through our doors. One of our favourite things about her is the cute outfits she has for every holiday. At her most recent visit she sported a pawsome St. Patrick's day outfit - drop some love in the comments!

Jessica recently underwent knee surgery to repair an injury. To help with her healing process, she has been coming in for red laser therapy. We offer this treatment to help with many things such as surgical wound healing, muscle injury, ear infections, lick granulomas, and more! Contact our office to learn more.

Interested in becoming a Veterinarian?

The Ontario Veterinary Medical Association is pleased to offer three $1,000 bursaries to support high school students in Ontario who aspire to become veterinarians. The purpose of these bursaries is to financially support students from underrepresented groups and those who are economically disadvantaged.

To be eligible for the bursary, individuals must:
-- Be a resident of Canada with an Ontario mailing address.
-- Identify with one (or more) equity-deserving groups, including: Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities and/or immigrants to Canada.
-- Have financial challenges that impede their ability to fund their ambitions of becoming a veterinarian.

Contact Terra Shastri at tshastri@ovma.org to receive a link for the application form. The deadline for application is April 30, 2026.

Three bursaries are available each school year, and only selected applicants will be contacted. Those selected will be contacted via email by June 23, 2026. Bursary applications are required to include a reference letter from a teacher who has taught the student within the last two years.

Use of generative AI
Applicants are expected to complete their application responses entirely on their own, without the use of generative AI tools (for example, ChatGPT) or assistance from others. The purpose of this bursary application is to understand who you are in your own words. Clear and authentic self-expression is an important skill in veterinary medicine, where communication, professionalism, and the ability to convey ideas effectively are essential. Using AI or outside help takes away from that goal and may result in your application not being considered.

BREED SPOTLIGHT!

Here is our first feline breed spotlight! Meet Gollum - this little cutie is a one of a kind boy with lots of love to spread! He is also a warrior having made it through major surgery thanks to his 9 lives! You'll always find Gollum in a cozy sweater to keep him warm.

This breed is known for being paw-tastic at stealing the show and cuddling up in the warmest nooks & crannys they can find (due to their lack of hair).

Curious pets can find trouble in places people do not always expect. National Poison Prevention Week is a good reminder to look around the home from a pet’s point of view.

Common risks include human medications on nightstands, certain houseplants and flowers, chocolate and xylitol sweetened treats, and cleaning or yard products left within reach.

If a pet ever seems off after getting into something, do not wait for symptoms to worsen. Call the ASPCA Poison Helpline below for immediate assistance and notify our clinic as soon as possible for further treatment and guidance.

FEATURE FRIDAY!

Say hello to Sparky. He is an all white Husky, and he is just as fluffy as he is cute.

Fun fact, many huskies, like Sparky here, are known for their piercing blue eyes, however, many of them also have a harmless condition called "Heterochromia Iridis" - where they have 2 different colour eyes, or a variation of colour within the same iris!

Huskies are also known for their unique vocalizations, which can be very funny to witness. It is believed to be due to their ancestral roots as sled dogs! They were required to communicate long-distance through howls, whines, and the "talking" sounds we often hear them make.

If you're interested in reading more about Siberian Huskies, check out the CKC website at https://www.ckc.ca/en/Choosing-a-Dog/Choosing-a-Breed/Working-Dogs/Siberian-Husky

We hope you love sweet Sparky as much as we all do at the clinic. We're always delighted when he comes for a visit.

Leave Sparky some love (or howls 😉) in the comments!

BREED SPOTLIGHT!

Today we are highlighting a very fluffy breed - the Shetland Sheepdog, also known as the Sheltie!

These 3 pups - Deacon (brown & white), Seeley (large Merle) and Willa (small Merle) - are long time patients here at GBAC and they always bring the "paw-ty"!!

The Sheltie breed is known to be very sweet, affectionate and loyal. If they are anything like these three, they will fill you with joy, give you a good laugh and melt your hearts with their cuteness.!

To find out more about this awesome breed, here's a link to the CKC website: https://www.ckc.ca/en/Choosing-a-Dog/Choosing-a-Breed/Herding-Dogs/Shetland-Sheepdog
