Labyrinth Holistic Healthcare Labyrinth Holistic Healthcare is the naturopathic medical practice of Dr. Lisa-Ann Bilinsky, ND. She lives in Oshawa with her husband and young daughter.

"Journey the path to health and wholeness"

Lisa-Ann Bilinsky received her degree in naturopathy from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, where she was awarded the Governors' Award of Excellence for outstanding academic performance. She is registered to practice under the College of Naturopaths of Ontario and a member of both the Ontario and Canadian Associations of Naturopathic Doctors. Lisa-Ann is also a trained ND Doula and has a special interest in perinatal and pediatric care, reproductive health, mental health, and environmental medicine. A message from the ND:

Not unlike a labyrinth itself, my own personal journey to becoming a naturopathic doctor was one full of twists and turns. Raised by a mother who was a pioneer of the “health food revolution” and by a father who taught me the wonders of the natural world, I learned at an early age the value of natural medicine and healthy living. However, as a young adult I found myself more influenced by the realm of the spirit and mind and pursued an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and Psychology at the University of Waterloo. I followed this with a more intense theological education and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Toronto. The career in ministry that followed led me to a number of privileged experiences as chaplain to students and educators in the school system, as assistant in an inner city mission community and as “padre” to the youth of the Canadian Cadet corps. While this work inspired me with the enthusiasm of youth, I was also witness to the struggles inherent in cultures of peer pressure and family conflict, and to the sobering injustices and inequalities of poverty. Moreover, working in the context of religion, I often found it difficult to navigate the tension between doctrines and dogmas and peoples’ personal experience. These challenges helped clarify for me that a healthy spirit was deeply interconnected with a healthy body, a healthy mind, a healthy community environment and a healthy earth. I began looking for a way to integrate all of these aspects of our lives into my work, believing that it is this integration that is at the core, or centre, of good health and healing. When I discovered naturopathic medicine, I knew that this was the answer to my quest. Here was a career that spoke of ideals close to my heart: “root cause”, “whole person”, “healing power of nature.” I enrolled in and completed the pre-requisite science courses and then began the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine programme of study. Through it I was able to add the wisdom of the naturopathic elders, the teachings of traditional Chinese medicine and the processes of modern science to my background in arts, social science and ministry. It was truly a holistic education. My goal in practice is to continue that holistic education everyday, with each patient I meet, in a spirit of care and non-judgment. It is my hope that together we can journey to that integrated centre of good health inherent in each one of us. Lisa-Ann

We are privileged to live in a country that allows its citizens to freely express and share cultural and faith traditions. At a time of year when the days are getting shorter, Diwali is the first of many faith holidays that honours the triumph of light over darkness.

To all those who celebrate, Happy Diwali! May we all take this as a reminder to strive for goodness over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and community over separation.

Thanksgiving is somewhat of a remarkable civic holiday if you think about it. Considering that our country and its leaders are often caught up in debate, power politics and economic challenges, it really does seem contrary to the status quo to provide a day where we are inspired to speak and share only gratitude.

This is because when we live and stand in a spirit of Thanksgiving, we put aside, for a moment at least, the drive for more, and instead focus on the blessings of now.

And when we express thanks for today’s blessings, we are more inclined to relate to one another in a spirit of peace, kindness, patience, and sharing.

May all of us appreciate the gifts that this day brings us, and carry a little bit of that spirit into every other day of this year.

Today I want to acknowledge that my own awareness of plant wisdom is due in great part to the knowledge and teachings of the indigenous peoples and of their willingness to share it.

On the National day for Truth and Reconciliation , I invite you to do your own research on how your lives have been shaped and supported by indigenous peoples and to offer gratitude for that sharing.

‘Tis the season to appreciate the fruit of our labours.

If a tree falls in the forest. . . 🌲

If the Northern Lights shine away from smartphones, does anybody see?

My daughter took this picture last night.

I was trying to get a glimpse of the Northern Light show - what used to be a fairly rare sight in this part of our country - so south and urban.

The thing is. . .when I looked up at the sky, I couldn’t see any dancing auroras. It was only once I lifted my advanced technology smart phone to the heavens that I was able to see the colour and shine.

I am conflicted about this.

I mean I do wonder if the smartphone will eventually diminish our impressions of a real face-to-face encounter with the beauty of our world.

Yet, at the same time - I see this glimpse as a valuable reminder that there are so many energies around and within us all the time that we can’t see with the naked eye - but are still there and are still acting upon us.

Viruses, bacteria, electric-magnetic radiation, air pollution,
Oxygen, Hormones, mitochondria,
Negative energy, positive energy, memories,
Hate, Love, Universal consciousness. . .

By our own choices for how we navigate our bodily health, environmental health and emotional health, we create our own unseen energies that influence and affect others too.

So this smartphone glimpse of the auroras is not only a reminder, but an invitation to be mindful of how we are contributing to the energies of the world around us.

If someone were to take a picture of you, what would they see?

Let’s be forces for healing, for unity, for peace, for love. ❤️

Happy Labour Day to all!

A “few” years back, my mother was in labour on this day :) and today. . .this is 51!

After getting through this first full year in my 50s I have come to the conclusion that this decade is the one in which we, as women, start to fully thrive!
Sure, my hormonally shifting body is constantly presenting me with new challenges.
Sure, my skin and size are not what they were in my 20s.
But when I look beyond the inevitable aging process, I realize:
I feel more grounded in myself,
more motivated to share my passions,
more willing to speak my mind,
more able to let things go,
more capable of refusing the bu****it,
more connected to the real wisdom that surrounds me
and
more confident that wherever I am in this moment is where I am supposed to be.

Overall, trust and hope are the keys here at a time when life is all about change.
So cheers to strong women!
Cheers to embracing your birthday wherever it lands!
Looking forward to another year where we journey through this messy life together!

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! 🧡

Image:
- a rich symbol of cultural sharing between the Indigenous people of the Prairies and the early Ukrainian immigrants to Canada.

May we continue to share and support each other.
May we continue to learn from each other.
May we move with intention toward truth and reconciliation.

Naturopathic medicine is now formally recognized as part of Canada’s evolving primary care landscape.

We’re pleased to share that naturopathic doctors are featured in the newly released Compendium of Roles in Team-Based Primary Care, officially launched in April 2025 by the Canadian Health Workforce Network.

This national publication profiles the wide range of professionals contributing to modern primary care — now including naturopathic doctors and their role in collaborative, patient-centered care.

This achievement reflects the leadership of CCNM faculty and alumni, and the continued collaboration between CCNM, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), and other integrative health partners.
