Strong reading skills don’t happen overnight—they’re built step by step! 🧱📚

📕 Phonological Awareness: The capability of recognizing and manipulating sounds in spoken language.

📕Phonics: The capability to match sounds to letters.

📕Reading Fluency: The capability of reading accurately and fluently.
📕Vocabulary: The capability of understanding various vocabulary words and using them in both conversation and written text/reading them in texts.
📕Comprehension: The capability of understanding what is being read.
When these skills come together, kids become confident, lifelong readers. 💡💬❤️

Should we use functioning labels?

NO!

Using terms like “high functioning” and “low functioning” doesn’t tell us much about what is needed. We cannot place skills on a line– it is not linear– the same goes with labels.

❌ Nope. Not even close.

Talking is a complex skill — one that takes brainpower, coordination, breath control, and practice. Just like learning to skate, it might come easily to some… but others? They’re still figuring it out — and trying SO hard.

So no, late talkers aren’t lazy. They’re learning. They’re working. And they deserve our support — not shame.

‼️Early Language Group‼️

This fun and engaging playgroup will focus on parent strategies and language facilitation techniques. Parents will learn how to implement strategies to ensure they are comfortable using them at home.

The playgroup will run for four weeks, ages 1.5 to 3, starting on February 14th.

Each session is $80 and will take place Friday mornings at our Oshawa location, 1077 Boundary Rd, Oshawa, ON, Unit 210.
