Therapeutic Recreation is healthcare—not an extra.

Cuts to TR services in hospitals harm patients, families, and care teams. We’re calling for reinstatement, transparency, and recognition of whole-person care.

January is Alzheimer's awareness month in Canada. Alzheimer's is a progressive brain disorder and the most common type of dementia that impairs an individual's domains of well-being and daily life.

As therapeutic recreation professionals, we often work closely with individuals with Alzheimers and it is important we continue to advocate for those affected by and with the diagnosis. Advocacy and awarenesses helps to reduce stigma and remind us that meaningful moments matter in each part of the journey. 💜

Today, the DEIB Committee at Therapeutic Recreation Ontario extends warm wishes to all who celebrate Lohri. This vibrant Punjabi festival marks the end of winter and the welcoming of longer, brighter days. Lohri is a celebration of harvest, community, and the warmth that comes from coming together around shared traditions and stories.

As we recognize Lohri, we honour the cultural diversity that enriches our province and the therapeutic recreation field. Cultural celebrations such as this strengthen community connection, belonging, and well-being — values deeply rooted in our work.

Wishing joy, abundance, and renewed energy to everyone celebrating Lohri!
