Karen Chenier mustered up all her strength to pay tribute to her daughter's memory at a Walk for Childhood Su***de Awareness at Lakeview Park.
The event marked the first anniversary of the passing of 12-year-old Victoria, who died by su***de last year.
Before the walk, Karen supported by her partner Jay, paid an emotional tribute to Victoia, who she said Victoria had multiple medical issues including a cyst on her brain and had been let down by the medical system
"She was the apple of my eye...and wise beyond her years," said Karen. "She was not bullied, but sometimes misunderstood."
Dozens of friends came to the park to support the family including tearful schoolmates from Wi******er P.S., Brooklin where she was due to graduate from this year.
Victoria was a member of the Sea Cadets and also had a passion for reading. Karen hopes the walk will raise awareness for the need to communicate with children about their anxieties.
"Victoria's favourite place was to be in nature," said Karen in her prepared speech read by her stepbrother Richard, "Hug a tree for Victoria, spend time with your loved ones and get talking."
