Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict, this includes conflict within your own mind and body!

What if you were told, You are stronger than you know? You have it in you to break down the walls you have built up before you! What if you knew the enemy holding you back, was your own limiting beliefs and self doubt! You’ve got this, I believe in you; and so does everyone else...

A while back I was asked to partake in a collaboration with .work and to work on a Documentary that would be shown at schools in the ottawa area. Let’s just say I didn’t hesitate to tell my story.

As most of you know, I was diagnosed with PTSD at the beginning of 2017, I had struggled with depression anxiety and paranoia long before that, to the point that su***de was the only option to stop end my suffering. I was wrong, and thank God I never did it!

Through a lot of Therapy, and a lot of Self work I am well into my recovery. In 2019, after a second officer in 5 years from my service took his life, I decided to go public with my Mental Health struggles. I made myself vulnerable in hopes that others would see that they are not alone in there struggles. I wanted to be the voice for those who hadn’t found theirs yet, and for those who no longer had a voice. If I could reach one person, then I would have done my job. Once I began, and I saw the impact, I knew I had made the right decision! I knew I would not stop this advocacy.

Since then, I’ve done some interviews and had some speaking engagements. This documentary was the most recent one I have done. In February of this year, I enrolled in to become a personal coach, as the next phase in my life. This is my way of paying it forward. Through my up and coming coaching business , my hope is that I would be able to guide others through personal struggles with mental, physical emotional health as well as building self esteem and confidence. To ultimately find themselves again. You are in there, I was and I found my light, and you can too!

Our Anchors

What are the things that hold you from moving forward. What, from your past is holding you from growth?

We all have things that we hold onto, that we identify with, that we hide behind…. That we believe is why we are who we are, or why we are the way we are.

Fears, self doubts, self confidence issues, intrusive thoughts. These are all things that we have been told about ourselves, or things we have come to believe about ourselves.

Do you feel like there is something holding you back from becoming who you are truly meant to be? Who you are authentically meant to be? Holding you anchored to the life; and the person who you know is not the person your mind, body and heart are telling you that you should be? Listen to that voice that is screaming at you from within… telling you you are better and stronger than your thoughts. You are amazing

It’s time to break free, time to dig deep, identify and start to remove the links in that chain of your anchor.

Anchors are made to stop movement; and although they can be good when creating positive habits; they can also be extremely detrimental to your journey and personal growth.

You are stronger than your past hurts and beliefs about yourself.

Cut your Anchor and set sail to the best version of you; and your true authentic self!!

When we hold on to our past, it doesn’t allow us to grow. We get stuck in our story, and allow excuses of why we are where we are.

Your past doesn’t control you, it doesn’t even belong in the now! You can leave it where it is meant to be; and that’s behind you!

Make peace with your painful past, don’t allow it to haunt your present! You do not live in that space anymore, you cannot make changes there.

3 steps to help make peace

1. create commitment to action - write down three positive reasons why it matters to make peace with your past
2. Make a list of possibilities you are most excited about and grateful for
3. Remove physical objects/triggers that remind you of negative past memories which keep you from moving forward.

Get excited about your Now, get excited about present opportunities and potential.

It’s not a focus on forgetting your past, it’s about healing so you can move past it! Instead of thinking about the past to figure it all out, focus on the present to make it meaningful.

Comfort kills productivity and breeds boredom. Push beyond your comfort level and grow!

Why do people stay in their comfort zone?

1. Fear of failure
2. Dread effort, pain or discomfort.
3. Wary of increased attention, expectations and responsibilities that my come with success.
4. Fear of criticism especially for those who crave external validation.

How can you step out of your comfort zone?

1. Try something new
2. Start small
3. Once comfortable with small, increase the discomfort
4. Ensure they are incremental in the direction of your larger goals
5. Celebrate small victories.

Sometimes past hurts affect forward movement. It is important to address any past hurts that have been holding you back first and foremost.

Change takes time! Meaningful and sustainable growth is a slow and steady process. Remember it is not about how fast we can get there, it’s how well we achieve the goals that counts!
