👋It’s so easy for us to get swift into our busy schedule without noticing how we are doing mentally, emotionally or physically. As we are slowly ending our week, I encourage you to try a 5-minutes Mental Health Check-in by asking yourself the following questions:

- Have I eaten regular meals?
- Am I getting enough sleep?
- Have I spent time outside in the fresh air?
- Have I connected with someone?
- Have I moved my body today?
- Have I been self-compassionate?
- Have I showered?

Did you ever notice how easy it is to be kind to friends? Well self-compassion is “giving ourselves the same kindness and care we would give to a good friend.” It is expending that compassion towards ourselves during moments of suffering, self-criticism, failure, or perceived inadequacy. The three steps in practicing self-compassion entail:

1) Self-kindness: giving kindness and understanding toward ourselves when we are self-critical, fail at something, or hurt.

2) Common humanity: viewing our individual experiences as embedded in the broader human experience, rather than seeing ourselves as isolated.

3) Mindfulness: in self-compassion, the practice of mindfulness entails acknowledging and labelling our thoughts to create space for self-validation instead of reacting to them.

Today is Orange Shirt Day. This day is a recognition of the harm the Canadian residential school system did to children, families and communities for generations. It's an affirmation to ensure that everyone around us, especially children matters. Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis’ story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at St. Joseph Mission Residential School. It has become an opportunity for everyone living on this land called Canada to come together and to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. Let us remember the survivors and those who did not make it. 🧡
