Summer Radiance! July Highlights!
Is the summer heat affecting your skin? Having issues with acne breakouts?
As the summer temperatures rise, so does the likelihood of acne flare-ups. The combination of sweat, oil and outdoor activities can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. Here are some easy skin care strategies to help with your skin health and skin quality so you can enjoy clear skin all summer long.
1- Change your pillowcase regularly
Residue from our skin care, natural oils from our skin, dead skin cells, bacteria, accumulate on our pillow cases. During the night, exposure to the debris and residue can contribute to acne and rosacea flare ups. Changing your pillowcase once or twice a week will allow your skin a fresh canvas to rest on.
2- Avoid using fabric softeners /fabric sheets in your laundry.
The residue from these products not only irritates the skin but clogs pores, therefore leading to acne and other skin irritations.
3- Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
4- Wear breathable fabrics
Choose loose fitting clothes made of natural fibers to allow your skin to breathe and reduce irritation.
5- Manage stress
High stress levels can trigger acne. Incorporate stress-reducing activities like yoga or meditation into your routine.
6- Stick to your skin care routine
Cleanse with a gentle cleanser twice a day to remove impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
Exfoliate regularly: regular use of mild chemical and physical exfoliants once or twice a week will help remove dead skin cells, promote collagen and prevent clogged pores.
Using a Vitamin C serum prior to sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF will boost protection against the free radicals that congest the pores.
How much sunscreen should be used on your face, neck, décolleté?
To maintain youthful appearing, radiant skin, a broad spectrum sunscreen should be applied to the whole face, including along the scalp borders near the hairline, ears and behind ears as well as the neck and décolleté. A teaspoon equivalent is sufficient to cover these sensitive areas, and should be reapplied every couple hours. Insufficient application leads to patchy incomplete barrier, limiting protection and leaves skin exposed to sunburns, premature aging and skin cancer. Remember consistency is key!
These tips are easy to follow and can help you maintain healthy skin even in the heat of the summer!
