It’s fiddlehead season! Be sure you know how to identify them, harvest them responsibly, and safely consume them.
Fiddlehead ferns are an early spring delicacy found all over the Northeast. Not all ferns are edible and some can be harmful if consume. The Ostrich fern fiddleheads are edible, and can be identified by the brown, papery scale-like covering on the uncoiled fern. Fiddleheads are approximately 1 inch in diameter, have a smooth fern stem (not fuzzy), and also a deep “U”-shaped groove on the inside of the fern stem.
Harvest the tender ostrich ferns as soon as they are an inch or two above the ground. Carefully brush off and remove the papery brown scales. Clean fiddleheads can be safely cooked using many different methods, boiling and steaming and sautéing. Fiddleheads can be boiled or steamed prior to use in other recipes that call for sauteing, stir-frying or baking.
After boiling or steaming, serve at once with optional toppings or seasonings, such as melted butter, vinegar, olive oil, salt or pepper. Cooked and rapidly chilled fiddleheads can be also served as a salad with an onion and vinegar dressing. Enjoy!

Happy Spring Equinox lovelies! 💜
I made home made date syrup! ( I realized just now I wrote it with an o! ) Sirop like in French.
Je commence cette année à écrire et parler plus en Francais.
Mes ambitions avec ceci sont bien terminer. Content avec mon produit, Il va passé le temps dans le frigo quand je n'utilise pas le sirop!
💪🏼🙏🏼
Was a bit of a chore to make but I had some dates that were hard ( I prefer soft ones to eat ) and soaking them, blending and cooking on low for like 15 mins and cheese cloth strain was enough of a job. :D It tastes great and I will use it in my tea and oatmeal!
🌱Happy new year of seasons ✨️💛

Awe Long live little Snails 😍🌀

Hello, I am the SNAIL. I know I sometimes cause trouble by feeding on your garden plants. But please, don't kill me with poisons that cause suffering and contaminate your garden! Instead, use coffee grounds around your plants. I'll stay away, and you'll nourish the soil since coffee grounds make a great fertilizer.

If you see me stuck to a pot, don't pull me away; my protective covering will break, and I could die. And if you notice small snails following me, please leave them be. They are my delicate offspring with soft, fragile shells. Not many of them survive, but we are essential to the ecosystem and have an ancient history.

Help us survive. 🐌

Have you ever wondered where artificial raspberry, vanilla or strawberry flavor comes from? These are the dried perineal glands of the beaver. They contain castoreum, a food additive usually listed as ‘natural flavoring’ in the ingredient list. Castoreum is the exudate from the castor sacs of the mature North American Beaver. It is a yellowish secretion in combination with the beaver’s urine, used during scent marking of territory. They also use pig secretion near the re**um for this same flavoring. In the USA, castoreum as a food additive is considered by the FDA to be generally recognized as safe, often referenced simply as a “natural flavoring” in products’ lists of ingredients. It can be used in both foods and beverages as a vanilla, raspberry and strawberry flavoring.
