Noticing your body doesn't have to take a long time or be something different from what you are already doing. It can simply be the act of paying attention and noticing.

Connecting to your body can help you feel grounded and practicing this connection can help strengthen the pathways from your body to your brain and vice versa. Noticing how you feel from moment to moment can help you pick up on cues coming from your body that you may not have noticed before!

Here are 5 ways you can connect to your body right now!

Do you typically validate or invalidate your feelings?

I challenge you to start noticing how you react to your feelings. Do you acknowledge and make space for them? Or do you tell them to go away, call them dumb, or say you overreacted to a situation? Next time you experience a feeling or emotion, try and make space for it. You can do this by allowing yourself to feel the feeling, and getting curious about the feeling, where it came from, and what triggered it.

Becoming unstuck requires knowledge and awareness of your feelings and body states. You already have this knowledge and can access it by checking in with yourself when you are feeling different emotions. For example, if you notice you are feeling stressed and then check in with your body, you might notice that this stress is being held as tension in your shoulders. Equipped with this knowledge, the next time your shoulders start to tighten, you can associate this feeling with stress and identify where this is coming from before you get overwhelmed.

Hello everyone! Welcome to Zoey Wilton Therapy.

I have always had a passion for helping people and believe that health is a holistic process. Therefore, I approach therapy by incorporating person-centered therapy, focusing-oriented therapy, mindfulness, and polyvagal theory. Through this integration, my clients can feel more connected to themselves, resulting in an overall improved understanding of the self.

My main focus is on clients who are adults experiencing chronic pain, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.

I am based in Ottawa but conduct my sessions online which allows me to work with clients across Ontario and beyond. Check out my website for more information, and to book a free consultation today!
