Digestive discomfort is a signal that our digestive system is struggling and needs help.
The other evening, we tried a local eatery. The menu looked appealing, and although it wasn't something I normally ate, I was curious to try out a cachapa (cornbread bun) with pulled pork, which sounded delicious!
Halfway through, I stopped, I could feel my stomach was bloating, and not happy with the situation. I felt tired and uncomfortable. When I got home I had a ginger and lemon tea, until everything settled. The next day still felt a little 'off' but way better than the night before.
I realise this is a sensation that many of my clients live with daily, and it's not fun.
However, instead of looking for the root cause, we treat the symptoms by taking these types of medication, which does not bring resolution to the problem.
Digestive discomfort is often perceived as a normal part of the process, but it is far from being normal, and when not taken seriously, it can lead to further health issues down the road.
The causes can be varied; however, a few points to think of:
- Eating a diet composed of highly refined food products
- A diet containing 'hidden sugars'
- Eating quickly
- Eating starch-heavy meals
- Eating every 2 hours
With education, support, and guidance, digestive discomfort can be a thing of the past.
So, next time you feel uncomfortable, take a few moments and see if you can find the cause.
