Madeline McBride will start teaching Ron Phelan's workshop on how to put the jaw in centric relation in North America in 2025-6. Note that Bowen, massage, craniosacral, physio and occupational therapists will be able to take Ron's www.PASCseminars.com Mod 1 & 4 workshops from Madeline!
We like to play with popsicle sticks here in the office! They are used for a TMJ Alignment treatment.
The sticks act as a spacer to hold the jaw open to the needed width while I apply the corrections to the jaw- into a position called Centric Relation, known as the Gelb 4-7 position in the dentistry world. While achieving Centric Relation was previously thought to be almost impossible, an Orthodontist by the name of Dr. Brenden Stack became world-renowned for his ability to find the Centric Relation position for his patients and taught at many conferences around the world. This Bowen Therapy Jaw Alignment technique was developed in conjunction with Dr Stack and Mr. Ron Phelan, an RMT and Bowen Therapist from Australia.
Why is that position important?? It is the most balanced position for the Jaw to sit in that does not impede proper jaw movement.
How many sticks are used?
Some people need 2 sticks, while others may need up to 5 - it just depends on how far the lower jaw is compressed up into the TMJ, and how much pressure is on the disc or the tissues behind it.
Why is it important to have your Jaw assessed? An improper Jaw placement can cause tremors that mimic Parkinson’s, Tourette’s symptoms, gait imbalances, neurological dysfunction, pelvis or neck problems, and Endocrine System hormone imbalances to name a few.
