As someone who has been a provider for children and families for many years, I understand the complexities and barriers to finding activities and camps that can accommodate children, particularly those with special needs.

Which is why I had to spread the word...

I recently had the pleasure of learning about the wonderful opportunities Camp Maple Leaf provides for children aged 7 to 16 while participating at a community resource event held by the Military Resource Center (NCR).

Several aspects of the camp stood out to me:

* It operates as a charitable organization, ensuring accessibility for families through its "pay what you can afford" model.
* The camp warmly welcomes all children, regardless of their individual diagnoses or needs.
* They maintain an impressive adult-to-child ratio, ensuring attentive support.

Beyond these remarkable features, I was particularly struck by the incredible energy of their Camp Director, April, also known as "Calypso." Her ability to connect with children and teens is truly special. Witnessing the campers' enthusiasm as they shared their past experiences and expressed excitement for returning this year clearly demonstrated the positive impact of Camp Maple Leaf.

Spaces are limited, contact them directly to learn more.

We are proud to announce a new collaboration between The Ottawa Cancer Foundation and Success in Steps Therapy and Counselling.

Cancer affects not only individuals but also their families, caregivers, and loved ones. That's why we are coming together to expand mental health support for parents and families navigating the challenges of cancer.

Social skill groups are such a great resource for individuals with ASD as they provide a structured environment for individuals to learn and practise key social skills in a supportive setting.

Learning to understand non-verbal cues and social norms, initiating conversations, expanding communication skills, managing emotions, reducing social anxiety and increasing self-esteem are just a few of the key benefits.

Please help me in sharing this great opportunity that is being provided by Dr. Julia Ryan and her team.

I recently had the privilege of touring The Ottawa Cancer Foundation's warm and inviting Hub. During my visit, I also had the opportunity to meet with Sue Merrill and the navigation team. I was grateful for the chance to learn more about the valuable support and services they provide to individuals and families facing cancer.

This beautiful space provides a supportive environment where those impacted by cancer can be heard and connect with others without having to retell their whole story.

If you know someone impacted by cancer, please share this incredible resource that we have right here in our community.
No one deserves to go through this alone!

As a Parent Consultant and Behaviour Coach, nothing brings me more joy than supporting families to spend less time on challenges and behaviour and more time enjoying their family.

Whether you have one, two or three children, twins or triplets, the parenting journey becomes more manageable and enjoyable when you can establish a family foundation with clear expectations and healthy boundaries. The Grenier Triplets can attest to that.

No matter what you may be struggling with, asking for help is always an option. Sometimes a little support and direction can be all that you need.

Being a parent ain’t easy they say. And THEY are understating that! No matter if you have 1, 2, 3 or 12 kids, parenting is hard and you almost always feel like you're swimming in the dark. It’s a constant feeling of uncertainty, from small daily issues to big time meltdowns - guiding your children in their growth is intricate to say the least.

As a couple and future parents, we always had somewhat of an idea of the direction we wanted to take in raising a kid, and even though we didn’t always see eye to eye, we thought we were enough on the same page to get us through tougher times ahead. Well fast forward to a couple of years later and with triplets on our hands, we quickly realized that, while having the best of intentions and an overall great communication, we weren’t equipped to face the challenges of raising a gaggle of children all at once - basically trying to navigate the murky parenthood waters with a mini daycare in tow, during a pandemic. Not an easy task and one that made us feel quite overwhelmed on most days. We realized that we needed help and tools to be able to face the daily challenges of parenthood and give our kids the best support possible to get through these “terrible 2s” and the growing pains of growing up as multiples.

Hiring Sylvia from .in.steps.consultant was a game changer for us, as much as hiring a sleep coach was back in the days, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. And while the struggles aren’t over (because you never stop raising your kids and they never stop needing time, attention and tools to grow), we feel that Sylvia has given us a great foundation as parents to tackle these challenges moving forward. And we will continue to consult with her from time to time or as needed because we feel her expertise and approach are exactly what we need.

Thank you Sylvia! If you need guidance we highly suggest you check her out!
