WELCOME TO MY NEW SERIES! 💥 CRYSTAL MYTH BUSTING 💥
I’m about to save you from buying a fake ‘sphalerite’ crystal…
As a crystal shop owner, I’m always learning too… and this one was actually news to me.
Going forward, I’ll always make sure I’m labeling pieces based on what I now understand to be true 🤍
I’ve been seeing these everywhere lately, and I went down a bit of a rabbit hole…
Here’s the truth:
Real sphalerite is actually very soft and fragile, with something called perfect cleavage (meaning it can break easily along internal lines).
Because of that, it’s not commonly carved into large, smooth towers or spheres.
So what are these pieces?
Most are actually:
✨ Chalcedony
✨ Jasper
✨ Or mixed mineral stones (sometimes with small amounts of sphalerite inside)
And just to be clear—
They’re still beautiful. Still meaningful. Still valid to own 🤍
But knowing what you’re buying matters.
Have you ever found out a crystal you bought wasn’t what you thought it was? 👇
