Hi !
I’m Kristen, and I’m dedicated to bridging gaps in mental health care, and advocating for the voices that go unheard within our community.
CAMH released that “one in two Canadians have—or have had—a mental illness by the time they reach 40 years of age…Opioid overdoses now account for more deaths in Canada than automobile accidents. Over 4,000 Canadians die by su***de every year—an average of 11 per day.”
There is a huge shortage of funding for mental health care in Canada. Research consistently shows that early intervention is the key to preventing the development of serious symptoms. Still, ”75 per cent of children with mental disorders do not have access to specialized treatment services.”
My passion is to help lift barriers by taking a stand against harmful structures, policies, and practices that marginalize our community’s most vulnerable members, while increasing access to tools that promote self-determination.
I do this by engaging in advocacy initiatives and offering the following services to build on existing strengths: person-centered therapy, assistance with self-referrals to community agencies (Grey County Housing, CMHA, Legal), educational services (reading/writing support, resume-writing, interview practice, etc.), facilitating harm reduction for individuals with substance use disorder (SUD), attending appointments (medical/legal) for the purpose of advocating for the client’s best interest, etc.
In short, therapy from a social justice framework involves learning your story, understanding your needs/priorities, and connecting you with the tools you feel would foster joy, autonomy, and confidence!
