πΌππ resets the brain after trauma has altered it.
As the body and brain try to prevent further injury, some parts of the brain go into overdrive while others shut down. The brain's threat detection center, the amygdala, is overactive, while the future planning center, the pre-frontal cortex, is less active.
The hippocampus is altered, resulting in a decreased ability for memory recall and greater depressive symptoms. The Vagus nerve shuts down bodily functions as the body is in a near-constant freeze state. The brains of those with traumatic experiences can often not tell the difference between the past and the present.
Using somatic experiencing, symbolic imagery, desensitization and rescripting, πΌππ helps to bring safety back to the brain and the body.
