Owen Sound Audiology will remain open during the provincial 28 day lockdown due to COVID-19, beginning December 26, 2020. As regulated health professionals, we are following the directives of our regulatory body, the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) and the Public Health Authorities.
Based on your needs, our services are being offered virtually, curb side or in-office by appointment only. Our priorities are to ensure you are protected from exposure to COVID and that your communication barriers due to hearing loss are minimized. For your safety we have enhanced our infection control protocols and changed our service model to control access to our office to maintain physical distancing.
If you need of service or supplies, please call our office at 519-376-0887 or email info@owensoundaudiology.ca and we will arrange to ensure your needs are met. If you have a recurring appointment, we will be calling you just as we have in the past to discuss how you are doing and to arrange the service that best meets your needs at this time.
Please note that masks are always required inside the clinic and must be worn so they cover your mouth and nose completely.
Please follow Owen Sound Audiology on Facebook for updates to our services and contact us to ensure you Hear For Your Health.

Our Update Regarding Our Services After December 26, 2020

As everyone is aware, the province enters a COVID-19 lockdown at 12:01 am on Boxing Day. Audiologists, as Regulated Health Professionals, provide essential services and are permitted to do so under the provincial guidelines.

Owen Sound Audiology has provided service following the strict Public Health protocols since March 17, 2020. In addition to our routine infection control protocols that we have always followed, we have:
- begun disinfecting areas of client contact before and after every visit
- added plexiglass barriers where needed
- restricting appointments to only one person as much as possible and allowing one person to accompany that person when necessary to ensure optimal care
- closed our waiting room and had those with appointments wait in their cars until we called them into the office,
- introduced curb side services and virtual care to decrease traffic slow within the office
- implemented pre-screening and arrival screening for all appointments
and
- conducted staff training based on our COVID Health &Safety Policy.

During the lock down we will continue with these changes in place and will continue to follow all directives from Public Health and the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario, our Regulatory Body.

Reducing the difficulty following conversations when everyone is wearing a mask is our primary goal. If you have a hearing loss that has not been diagnosed or treated or if you have a previously diagnosed hearing loss but are experiencing more difficulty than you feel is warranted, I want to stress that you should call and we will do our best to ensure social isolation is not increased due to a hearing loss or equipment that is not functioning optimally.

With the vaccine rolling out in Ontario, hopefully the end of this pandemic is in sight. In the meantime please wear a mask when appropriate, social distance even though it’s very isolating, and frequently wash or sanitize your hands especially when you’ve been outside your own home.

Stay Safe, and Enjoy the Best of the Season! 2021 is on the way, bringing better things to all!

We wish everyone a Very Very Merry Holiday and All the Best in 2021!
We are taking a break, and will be closed from Noon on Thursday December 24 2020 until 8:30 am Monday January 4th 2021.
It's been a very different year as everyone knows, and we wish to thank everyone for doing there part to everyone safe.
Stay well and hopefully we can properly celebrate Christmas and all the other missed celebrations of 2020 in the summer of 2021!

Excellent.

Excellent.

The pandemic and the use of windowless masks has resulted in communication breakdown for many people and not just those with hearing issues.

This morning I browsed through the news at the ‘virtual’ Western University Homecoming which is happening this weekend. This marks 40 years since I completed my undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Medicine, Communicative Disorders Program. It’s hard to believe that another two years and it will be 40 years since I graduated with my Masters of Clinical Science and left Western to begin what has been a fulfilling, rewarding career.
I came across this article which reinforces my awareness that as clinicians, we endeavour to meet the needs of those we have the privilege to cross paths with. It looks like this underlying compassion and ability to step up, recognize and help others continues with the graduates of today.
Well done Michael Urichuk and Taylor Bardell!

LEGO adds figures with hearing loss. We really hope this raises awareness that hearing loss is present in people of all ages, and hearing aids are not a sign of aging or cognitive decline. In fact, the reverse is true! There is an abundance of evidence that hearing loss leads to social withdrawal, increased isolation and cognitive decline and dementia.
It’s never to early to meet your local Audiologist, have a baseline assessment and learn you where your hearing is at today. What if an unfortunate event caused a sudden loss? How do you know what changed if you don’t know what was? It is also important to monitor your hearing periodically with rechecks that detect changes early and open conversations about any concerns you have. We are committed to working with you and your family every step of the way. We are also happy to present information to groups and service clubs, observing the need for social distancing or joining you at your virtual meetings.
I’m curious. Have you had your baseline audiologic assessment? If not, why? Let us now by leaving a comment or message us.
