We need $80 per OHIP exam just to break even. After decades of getting a little over half that, the govt has decided to pay $60. This is frankly an insult. Optometrists are subsidizing your eye exams out of our own pockets. Refusing to see OHIP patients happened for 11 weeks last fall. It's a sad situation, but we little choice against a govt. that just doesn't care. It may happen again. Tell your MPP you don't like this situation.

If any of you, the public, care about keeping OHIP covered eye care, best let your MPP know your thoughts! The Ont. Govt. can't be bothered providing reasonable payment to the 2500 Ontario optometrists. OHIP covered patients have been cut off since Sept. 1. BILL WALKER MPP (519) 371-2421

It's important for everyone to acknowledge Bill Walker is doing a hard and thankless task, and doing it because he wants to be helping his fellow Grey - Bruce residents. So, everyone, please show him the respect he deserves for working on all our accounts. Just let him know you recommend OHIP pays me at least double, not some measly 6 percent increase. Or let him know you think optometry need not be covered by OHIP at all.

For the last three weeks, children, teenagers and seniors in Ontario have been unable to book eye appointments with their doctors—and with negotiations between optometrists and the province stalled, it doesn’t appear as though they will be able to do so any time soon.

OHIP is badly broken, and the people that are supposed to make sure it runs smoothly just don't care. This is why we are no longer seeing OHIP covered patients. If YOU care, please mention this to your MPP.
