🦴 What Is Osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis — also known as Osteoarthritis — is one of the most common joint conditions we see.
It affects the joints (where your bones meet), causing:
✔️ Pain
✔️ Swelling
✔️ Stiffness
✔️ Reduced movement
The knees, hips, and hands are most commonly affected.
💡 What’s Actually Happening?
Your joints are lined with cartilage — a smooth, rubbery cushion that helps bones glide over each other when you move.
With osteoarthritis, that cartilage gradually wears down (which is why it’s often called “wear and tear” arthritis). As the cushion thins:
➡️ Bones can rub together
➡️ Movement becomes painful
➡️ You may hear grinding or crunching
➡️ Stairs, walking, or bending become harder
⚠️ How Do You Know If You Have It?
If you’re over 40 and experiencing:
• Ongoing knee or hip pain
• Morning stiffness
• Aching that worsens with activity
• Difficulty with daily tasks
— and it’s not from a recent injury — it’s worth getting assessed.
Most people don’t even need an X-ray to confirm a diagnosis. A good history and physical exam are often enough.
🛑 Is There a Cure?
There is currently no cure for osteoarthritis. Medications can offer some relief, but they often come with side effects and only modest improvements.
