It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our Mom, Julia Ann Allen, age 82, of Oxford on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at home with family by her side.

Born in Malagash, NS, she was a daughter of the late Myron and Delilah "Lila" (Rudolph) Langille.

Mom was first and foremost a wife and mother. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her family and always put them first. She was a worker beyond measure, raising her family, helping her husband, Winston run the funeral home as well as having a full time teaching career at Oxford Regional High School. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed preparing and sampling all types of foods. We will never again enjoy a turkey dinner or chocolate chip cookie that tastes that good.

She will be dearly missed by daughters Myrna Allen of Truro, NS, Lisa (Perry) Wilson of Amherst, NS; son Leonard Allen of Oxford, NS; granddaughter Jay (Trevor) Grant of Pictou, NS; brother Carson (Gladys) Langille of Moncton, NB; sisters Myrna (Bert) MacEachern of Moncton, NB and Joyce (Allan) Fillmore of Springhill, NS; sister in law Peggy Langille of Tatamagouche, former daughter in law Danielle Allen of Wentworth, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as her husband D. Winston Allen; brothers Locke (Dale) Langille of Winnipeg, MB. Frederick Langille of Halifax, NS, and Ronald (Thelma) Langille of Pugwash, NS.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff with the VON and Palliative Care Team.

Arrangements have been entrusted to W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford, NS (902-447-2167) where visitation will take place on Thursday September 11, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Her funeral service will take place on Friday September 12, 2025 at 2 pm at W. Allen Funeral Home, Oxford, NS. Burial to follow immediately in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford, NS.

Donations in her memory may be made to Oxford Pine Grove Cemetery or The Oxford Volunteer Fire Department

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Marion Ada Crowley, age 89, of Streets Ridge. She passed peacefully on Tuesday September 2, 2025 at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.

Born in West Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Marion was the daughter of Hugh and Sarah (Sadie Leslie) MacEachern.

Marion was a devoted mother to ten children, each of whom has a story about their birth from being born at home, in a storm, in the elevator, in the hallway, in the parking lot and only one being born in the delivery room. She was called Mom by many others near and far.

Marion had a very caring and serving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she could. She started her service work at a very young age and continued until she moving into the lodge working as a caregiver, cook, cleaner, waitress and respite care worker.

Christmas was very special to Marion as this was the time of year that all her children and grandchildren would arrive to share in a feast of turkey dinner, meatballs, rice, chili, scalloped potatoes, etc. Then came the dessert of pie, apple, cherry, lemon, coconut cream, pumpkin and blueberry and you could have more than one kind if you wanted. If you were too full of dinner you would be offered cookies and squares. No one left the table hungry. She did not care about your status or title you would always be welcomed with open arms.

Marion enjoyed making crafts and going to shows. She enjoyed meeting with people at the sales and seeing them year after year. Aunt Annie and Mom could be seen in the same spot year after year. With their knitted wool socks that she could whip up an evening while still entertaining her company the only sound you could hear was the clicking of the needles and mitts and her quilts that she and Aunt Annie made by hand not machine. In later years Sheila and Sonya would share the space and will continue the tradition.

Marion will be deeply missed by her sons: Wendell (Brenda) of Springhill, Alex (Ruth Anne Brookins) of Streets Ridge and Austin (Jane) of Antigonish, and daughters Sheila (Keith) Angus of West Linden, Tracy (Kenny) Black of Oxford and Tanya (Troy) Scolfield of Streets Ridge. Her many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Percy, daughters Doreen, Janice, Angela and Susan. As well as brothers Logan, Earl (Elizabeth) and Layton (Grace) and sisters Ruth (Laurie Williams), Ethel (Vernon Murray) and Annie (Clinton Davison), daughter in law Kathy, granddaughters Crystal and Veronica.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the East Cumberland Lodge, St Cornelius Roman Catholic Church Cemetery Company or charity of your choice.

We the family would like to thank the staff at East Cumberland Lodge for the exceptional care given to our Mom these last two years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford, NS (902-447-2167) where visitation will take place on Friday September 5, 2025 from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday September 6, 2025 at 10 am at Saint Cornelius Catholic Church, Streets Ridge. Buriel to follow immediately in the Saint Cornelius Catholic Church Cemetery.

Sharing memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Marion’s online memorial at www.allenfuneralhome.ca or through the W. Allen Funeral Home page.

Eleanor Ruth (Gilroy) (Sutherland) Fillmore born May 15th, 1943 in Salem to Catherine (Dow) and Martin Gilroy, passed away December 16th, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Eleanor attended Truro Teachers College and Mount Saint Vincent University for her Early Childhood Development Education. Of all the jobs she had, teaching pre-school and kindergarten were her most favourite. With her love of children, she was known by many as a second Mom.

She took up painting acrylic on canvas and has paintings all over Canada. She was proud to win two first prize ribbons for her paintings at the Cumberland County Exhibition. Eleanor also took the time to do special painted eggs for friends and family. She was awarded a Volunteer of the Year award for raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society and the IWK Children’s Hospital.

Marrying Eugene Fillmore in 2014 was one of the most rewarding things she ever did. Not only did she gain a great soul-mate, she gained a family she could claim as her own. Daughter Cheryl and husband Ian Mackintosh of Salem, son Tom Fillmore of Mansfield, granddaughter Melissa Lund of Moncton, grandson Jeff Mackintosh ( Beth Mackenzie) of Fall River. Eleanor enjoyed a very special bond with great-granddaughter Aurora Lund.

With her husband, Eugene she travelled to Scotland and across Canada to British Columbia to go up the Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer train.

Eleanor is predeceased by her parents, her first husband Donald E Sutherland, her sisters Anne, Jean, Doris and Ethel, brothers: Raymond, Ralph and Gordon. She leaves behind sisters Mary, Betty and special sister Marjorie and her family whom she was very close to, also brothers John, Lloyd (Pat) and Lester and many nieces and nephews and close friends.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Leicester Cemetery and the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter where she got her beloved cat, Suzie.

Cremation has taken place and on May 17th, 2025 at 2:00pm when the earth wakes up and the sun shines, we will honour her memory with a funeral at the W. Allen Funeral home in Oxford.
