Congratulations, Kayla, on this incredible achievement. We’re excited to see the impact of your work!
Here is Kayla's message:
I’m incredibly excited and honoured to share that I’ve been awarded the Faculty of Medicine Graduate Scholarship! ✨
This scholarship prioritizes research focused on autism, and I’m so grateful to have my work recognized in this area that is both personally and professionally meaningful to me.
My research centers on understanding how Autistic young adults—especially those diagnosed later in life or who self-identify without a formal diagnosis—experience identity development, well-being, and access to supports. By centering lived experience, I hope to contribute to more inclusive, neurodivergent-affirming health services, clinical practices, and policies.
As both an occupational therapist and a late-diagnosed Autistic adult, this work is deeply personal. I’m passionate about amplifying voices that have historically been underrepresented in autism research and helping bridge gaps in support for Autistic adults.
I also want to share how meaningful it is to do this work as an Autistic service provider. I’m proud to be part of a community and workplace that values lived experience and encourages growth. 💙
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way—this is just the beginning!
