When minutes matter, investment matters — especially in rural Newfoundland.
Recently, a member of the Catalyst family shared two very different experiences with emergency response in rural NL:
Five years ago, after a fall and hip fracture, it took over an hour for paramedics to reach their rural community.
Last week, after another fall and a leg fracture, paramedics arrived in under 10 minutes.
That kind of improvement doesn’t happen by accident.
Newfoundland & Labrador recently awarded a major 10-year integrated road and air ambulance contract designed to strengthen the entire emergency response system — especially in rural and remote areas.
This long-term investment will:
• Combine emergency dispatch, road ambulance, and air ambulance into one coordinated system
• Improve response times by deploying resources more efficiently across the province
• Expand staffing and paramedicine capacity
• Enhance air ambulance reliability for hard-to-reach communities
Large investments can feel overwhelming, scary or expensive upfront — but stories like this remind us why they matter.
When people in Newfoundland and Labrador experience faster, safer access to emergency care, the investment is already working.
At Catalyst Health Solutions, we believe that stronger systems lead to healthier communities, and we’re encouraged to see progress that directly impacts families across this province.
🩺 Healthcare is a long game — and long-term planning and investment is how we build a better future for everyone in NL.
Thank you and Dept of Health for being brave and making the investment. It’s already working.
