WPSHC is proud to offer Oncology Care as a satellite location of Northeast Cancer Centre, as operated by Health Sciences North. Patient-centred care is central to our approach, and we strive to make cancer care as accessible and seamless as possible. WPSHC is pleased to announce that our Laboratory has once again achieved ISO 15189 Plus™ Accreditation! ISO 15189 Plus is a four year cycle that requires medical laboratories to meet an expansive set of rigorous standards that assess quality, safety, expertise, and care delivery. Being granted ISO 15189 Plus™ accreditation means that WPSHC is meeting and exceeding the standardizing benchmarks set by a globally recognized leader in health system and medical laboratory evaluation.

We extend our heartiest congratulations and thanks to our lab team! The work they do is essential to patient care, and achieving the high standards required by Accreditation Canada demands tireless work over many years. We could not be prouder of our lab team and remain deeply grateful for their dedication and effort in supporting high-quality, comprehensive health care in our community.

In addition to , residents of the Ontario Health North East region, spanning from White River to the Quebec border and Peawanuck to Parry Sound, can also use the North East Virtual Care Clinic to access timely medical care.

To book an appointment, call 1-888-684-1999 or visit www.nevirtualcare.ca. The Clinic is open daily, 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm, to support patients who require timely medical care for medical concerns that are not life or limb-threatening. There is no cost for accessing this service.

This past week, WPHSC and Lakeland Long-Term Care completed its annual Fire Safety Inspection - and passed with flying colours! Not only did we simulate fire drills (known in the biz. as a code red 😉), but we also carried out our evacuation protocols, and that too, with our patients! This means:
✅ Traditional care delivery spaces are now fully operational.
✅ Overflow areas have resumed normal functions.
✅ Several patients have been safely discharged.

🚨 Important Update from West Parry Sound Health Centre:

Due to higher-than-normal patient volumes, we are currently operating beyond our usual capacity to ensure everyone receives the care they need. As a result, we’ve enacted Code Gridlock to manage the situation effectively.

To prioritize care needs and continue to serve our community:

• Patients may be admitted to overflow spaces including staying in the Emergency Department, or moving into our Ambulatory Care Department, Surgical Services Department or Family Waiting Rooms.
• We may have to temporarily alter or stop some of our programs and services as we work to improve patient flow. Should this be necessary the community will be notified in a timely manner.

Our dedicated staff are working diligently to improve patient flow and capacity. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding in the meantime as this may lead to longer-than-usual wait times. This past December, WPSHC celebrated our extraordinary team at our annual Holiday Gala and Long Service Awards. On December 13th, we recognised our team for more than 975 combined years of service!

We are so thankful to be able to work alongside such extraordinary individuals, and cannot thank our team enough for all the work they do to provide high-quality health care in West Parry Sound!
