What is BCST? BCST is a subtle hands-on therapeutic modality that benefits structural alignment, strain patterns, trauma, birth complications, stress, organ function and more. With different holds, the practitioner ‘listens in’ to one’s system orienting to a wide perceptual field. It is a very spacious contact so that the body can express old and protected patterning. The patient experiences a dee
ply restorative state while tracking and acknowledging sensations. Subtle internal adjustments are the big features of this work. They may feel the bones and tissues shifting, fluid-like movements, nerves firing or buzzing, temperature fluctuations, blood pulsing and a stillness in the expanse of glittering space. A naturally derived ‘inherent treatment plan’ unfolds where the practitioner relates with reverent awareness to specific anatomical structures and physiological processes. The unwinding of patterns allows vitality and health to return and strengthen. There are five features in CST work that were recognized by early osteopathic pioneers. 1) Mobility of the cranial bones (in relation to each other) 2) Motility of the spinal cord (in relation to itself) 3) Reciprocal tension of membranes around the brain and spinal cord (membranes moving with biotensegrity) 4) Fluctuation of cerebral spinal fluid within the brain and spine (the potency of tides) 5) involuntary movement of the sacrum between the ilia (resonating with the movements of the cranial bones)
The Biodynamic CST approach gives the body’s own intelligence an opportunity to be supported into healing processes that are often inaccessible through routine protocols of manual therapy. The practitioner’s hands are not too heavy, like touching a cork bobbing in the water, without it submerging, and still allowing the natural movements to occur. The patient’s system is like the tides of the ocean; the whole body is expanding and contracting in a tidal way. Every cell is inhaling and exhaling, we call this Primary Respiration. On the surface is seaweed moving and entwining everything like the fascia of connective tissue. Dropping into slower rhythms of fluid states –the ‘mid tide’ is like being in deeper waters. It is where the bones, muscles and organs adjust. Deeper yet is the very slow rhythm of ‘long tide’, it is a gateway to stillness – the ocean floor. This is where the original matrix of health exists; a state of balance and a settling. The patient’s system re-emerges with renewed symmetry and greater health expressions. The client takes with them a felt-sense body awareness which becomes a resource for everyday life.
