What’s better, Protection mode or Adaptation mode?

Answer: It depends!

Protection mode is appropriate following trauma (eg. a broken bone) or acute pain.

However, too many injuries are often treated over the long-term with protective methods such as rest, immobilization, restricting movement to avoid pain, and passive treatment modalities. Staying too long in the Protection mode after an injury is not ideal and can impede optimal recovery.

The body can adapt! After a period of Protection mode, don’t forget to transition into Adaptation mode: Move, strengthen, and stimulate tissues to increase their tolerance! Just remember to do this gradually to avoid increasing irritation.

Timelines depend on the type of injury and not everyone responds the same way, so it is recommended to seek guidance from a healthcare professional.
