👁️ June is Cataract Awareness Month!
Cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss worldwide — but the good news is, they’re treatable. At Ottawa Valley Vision, we’re using Cataract Awareness Month to remind our community of the importance of early detection and regular eye exams.

👓 What are cataracts?
Cataracts occur when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred or dim vision. They can develop slowly over time and may go unnoticed until they start interfering with daily life.

🧓 Who’s at risk?
While cataracts are most common in adults over 60, they can develop earlier due to genetics, UV exposure, smoking, or certain medical conditions like diabetes.

💡 The solution?
Cataracts are treatable with surgery — but early diagnosis through routine eye exams is key to maintaining clear, healthy vision.

Dr. Jefferies was in Calgary, AB last week assisting in the delivery of Vision Therapy Canada’s annual conference.

Dr. Jefferies has been a board member with Vision Therapy Canada for 5 years, where she volunteers her time to help increase awareness and education about the benefits of Optometric Vision Therapy.
