😇Join us in Congratulating Lauren Anderson on her Guardian Angel nomination!

"I would like to proudly nominate three extraordinary nurses - Brianne Vecchiola, Krista Duff, and Lauren Anderson - for recognition as Guardian Angels. A few months ago, I arrived in the Emergency Department with an unexpectedly low heart rate. What initially seemed concerning quickly became critical, as I was diagnosed with a third-degree heart block. I was transferred to the ICU, where I remained until I could be seen at the Ottawa Heart Institute for a pacemaker implantation. During what was one of the most frightening and uncertain times of my life, these three remarkable nurses were a constant source of comfort, strength, and compassion. Brianne Vecchiola, Krista Duff and Lauren Anderson went far beyond their clinical duties—they were present, attentive, and deeply caring in every interaction. They quite literally held my hand through moments of fear and uncertainty, offering reassurance, kindness, and encouragement when I needed it most. Their ability to balance professionalism with genuine empathy made an incredibly difficult experience feel manageable and less isolating. Their dedication to patient care, emotional support, and teamwork exemplifies the very best of nursing. Because of them, I not only felt safe but also truly cared for as a person, not just a patient. I will forever be grateful for their compassion and the impact they had on my journey. They are, without a doubt, true Guardian Angels."

"During one of the most difficult moments of my life, she was with me as I watched a close family friend pass away alone in the ICU. Her presence, compassion, and genuine kindness meant more than I can express. She never rushed me, never treated the moment as routine, and showed such deep respect and humanity during a time of loss. Her quiet support, thoughtful words, and attentive care made an unbearable situation feel less isolating. She ensured my family friend was treated with dignity and that I felt supported every step of the way. In a moment filled with grief, she truly embodied what it means to be a guardian angel. I will never forget the comfort she provided or the impact she had during such a vulnerable time. Nurses like her are the heart of compassionate care, and she deserves recognition for the difference she makes every day."

So fun to see medical students out exploring our community during PRH Community Week!
Welcome to Pembroke—we’re so glad you’re here and hope you enjoy everything the Ottawa Valley has to offer, because strong physician recruitment helps keep care close to home 💙💚💛

’Twas the night before Community Week, and all through the town,
Excitement was building all up and down.

The schedules were printed, the name tags in place,
With eager young med students soon set to embrace.

Twelve first-year learners from University of Ottawa would arrive,
Ready to see hospital medicine come alive.

From lectures and textbooks to real-life firsthand,
They’d shadow great physicians across our valley land.

The coordinators had planned every detail with care,
Ensuring warm welcomes would meet them everywhere.

From early morning rounds to stories late at night,
Community Week was shaping up just right.

At Pembroke Regional Hospital each day they would go,
To learn how departments and specialties flow.

Emergency, surgery, family medicine too,
Discovering the many paths doctors pursue.

Their first true experience in the life of a doc,
Beyond classroom walls and the ticking clock.

Seeing compassion and teamwork firsthand each day,
While building new friendships along the way.

But the learning expands far beyond hospital halls,
As the Ottawa Valley proudly answers the call.

With partnerships stretching both near and afar,
Across Renfrew County, each town plays a part.

From Pembroke to Petawawa they soon will roam,
Exploring the communities many call home.

Through Laurentian Valley and Whitewater Region too,
The warmth of the Valley will shine brightly through.

There’ll be laughter and learning, new memories made,
As future physicians step into the trade.

And though the week passes remarkably quick,
Its impact and friendships are certain to stick.

So here’s to Community Week, now finally near,
To connection, discovery, and plenty of cheer.

The Ottawa Valley is ready to say:
