Melanie is at the mall! While you're out doing your Christmas shopping at the Pembroke Mall, stop by, say hi and donate to help Melanie bring joy and laughter to the halls of Carefor Civic Complex and Mackay Centre this holiday season.

Melanie is trying to raise $12,000 to go towards recreation, transportation and entertainment to bring happiness to seniors at Carefor not for profit retirement homes.

Melanie Freeman lives at Carefor Civic Complex and understands the needs of the seniors who live there at and Carefor Mackay Centre. She knows these are more than retirement homes, they’re families. So she’s taking it upon herself to fill these homes with joy and laughter by walking to raise money for recreation and entertainment.

As a not for profit, charity, Carefor keeps the cost of rent at our homes low to help those who need it. Through donations we’re able to enhance our programs and services giving Ottawa Valley seniors the retirement they deserve.

Carefor is very grateful to receive $5,000 in funding from the Jason Blaine Foundation to revitalize Trillium Hall, the Therapeutic Recreation space at our Pembroke Civic Complex.

These funds will be used to upgrade the space with senior-friendly furniture, new blinds to improve comfort and safety, and materials to enhance therapeutic activities. The project will also support live music and cultural entertainment, fostering joy, connection, and improved mental wellness among residents. In total, 94 residents will benefit directly, with positive impacts extending to families, volunteers, and the broader Pembroke community.
