June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and Carefor recognizes it as an opportunity to honour the past and present contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

As an agency which provides care and support from the border of Algonquin Park to Quebec, Carefor not only operates on the unceded traditional territory of many Indigenous Peoples but we are also made up of and support a wide range of Indigenous Peoples, each with their own unique and rich cultures and history.

As a healthcare organization, we recognize the damage that has been done to Indigenous Peoples throughout Canada's history, which is still being felt, and we are committed to being part of the solution towards building a country and community where everyone feels equally respected and supported.

We love visitors but we especially love visits from children who fill our hearts with their beautiful voices. We recently had a visit at our Mackay Centre from students at Champlain Discovery Public School in Pembroke that made us so happy.

Father's Day is always such a great day at Civic Complex and Mackay Centre. We love bringing the dads together for some laughs, stories and of course, pizza (plus Caesar salad and a huge cinnamon sugar donut for dessert. yum).

We hope all the dads had a wonderful Father's Day.

Today is World Elder Abuse Prevention Day.

Elder abuse—whether financial, emotional, physical, sexual, or neglect—is a growing concern across Ontario. The Elder Abuse Prevention Network reports that as many as 1 in 5 older adults in Ontario will experience some form of abuse in their lifetime. Financial abuse—often perpetrated by someone known to the victim—remains the most frequently reported form of abuse, representing over 60% of cases reported to community agencies. However, only 1 in 24 cases is reported, making it a hidden crisis in many communities.
