This is Carlie - Two years ago, she took a leap. After seven years working in an oil facility out west, she and her husband moved back home to be closer to aging family. She wasn’t sure what came next, only that she wanted something meaningful.

Cooking had always been part of her life, but never at the scale of serving 80–90 residents three times a day. Still, she applied to Carefor, took the risk, and found a team ready to train her, support her, and help her grow into a role she now loves.

Today, Carlie is a cook, baker, and all‑around kitchen hero. But what she values most isn’t the recipes, it’s the residents. Serving meals, sharing laughs, and brightening someone’s day has become the best part of her job.

“Making them smile… that’s the goal every day.”

We are so grateful for the support of the 100+ Women Pembroke Petawawa District to help us build an outdoor visiting space of our residents and their families.

As many of our residents live with mobility issues, this space will provide them easy access to the outdoors which has tremendous physical and mental health benefits.

Congratulations to one of our successful Grant Recipients for 2026- Carefor Health & Community Services- for their Outdoor Gathering Project! With their grant of $2200 we hope to help assist them in providing an outdoor gathering space for the women at their Civic Complex.

From seed to soil, the Carefor Garden INSIDE Mackay Centre has been planted. Yet another product of the Care for Seniors with Melanie campaign, this garden will bring sunlight and joy as well as some veggies into our residents' lives. And everyone knows, there are few things that taste better than something you've grown yourself.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Care for Seniors with Melanie campaign. Keep an eye out for it returning in the fall.

During today’s cheque presentation, Guru Pabla shared his appreciation for Carefor’s work in the community, and Marcelle Thibeault, VP Client Care, highlighted how this support helps Carefor connect seniors in the Ottawa Valley to essential medical care.
