Saying goodbye isn’t always about wanting to.
Sometimes it’s about needing to.

Letting go can bring up doubt, guilt, and grief—
even when you know it’s the right decision.

That’s because we’re not just leaving behind what wasn’t working.
We’re also letting go of:

what we hoped it could be
what we invested
what felt familiar

Growth doesn’t always feel good in the moment.
But it often asks us to choose long-term alignment
over short-term comfort. 🌱

In this first video, our Clinical Director Rachel Gerow, MA, RP walks you through our intake process, including what happens after you reach out and how we help guide you through the next steps.

This week is Mental Health Week across Canada. 🇨🇦

The theme is Come Together, Canada - because stronger connections are a key part of better mental health.

But connection isn’t always easy.

Somewhere along the way, doing everything on your own can start to feel like the expectation.
Like strength means handling it quietly.

Over time, that can lead to feeling more disconnected—even when you’re not alone.

Real connection isn’t about being around more people.
It’s about feeling seen.
Understood.
Able to be honest about how you’re actually doing.

This week is a reminder that connection doesn’t have to be big or perfect.
It can start small.

One message.
One conversation.
One moment of letting someone in.

Because stronger connections really do support better mental health. 🌱

Engaging with our community means showing up for the conversations that matter. ❤️

Earlier this month, Dr. Anita Federici had the opportunity to present at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care with the North Simcoe Muskoka Specialized Geriatric Services team.

Her talk, “Trauma-Informed Care in Geriatrics: Understanding Behaviour When Words Are Limited,” explored how older adults living with frailty, cognitive impairment, and complex health needs often express distress through behaviour rather than words. Using a trauma-informed lens, Anita highlighted how behaviours like agitation, withdrawal, and refusal can be understood as meaningful responses to perceived threat, loss, or lack of control.

The session focused on practical, everyday strategies for interdisciplinary teams—shifting language, slowing interactions, and strengthening therapeutic relationships in real-world care settings.

We’re so grateful to the for the thoughtful engagement and important work they do every day – thank you for having us!

Anita will be sharing more reflections from this experience in an upcoming blog post—stay tuned!

Is Your DBT Adherent? 6 Essential Questions to Ask Your Therapist

Not all DBT is adherent DBT—and that matters. DBT is an evidence-based therapy designed to provide comprehensive, structured support to help individuals build lasting change. But when key components are missing—such as skills training, between-session coaching, or consultation team support—clients may not receive the full benefits of the treatment.

Swipe through to learn 6 essential questions—sourced from the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification—to ask your therapist and determine if the DBT you’re receiving is truly adherent.

At The Centre for Psychology & Emotion Regulation, DBT is what we do. Our team is highly skilled, experienced, and dedicated to delivering DBT as it was intended to be delivered—comprehensive, adherent, and research-backed.

If you’re looking for fully adherent DBT, we’re here to help. 💙

So much of life right now can feel performative - progress, healing, even rest can start to feel like something that needs to be visible to count.

But not everything meaningful needs an audience. Some things matter even when they’re quiet, unfinished, or kept close. Growth doesn’t always look impressive from the outside, and value isn’t created by being seen.

Support can be a place where you don’t have to prove anything - where things don’t need to be polished, shared, or on display to be taken seriously. ❤️

Today, we’re celebrating the people who keep everything running behind the scenes.

On Administrative Professionals’ Day, we want to recognize and thank Jodi, Rosie, and Paul for the care, organization, and consistency they bring to the Centre every day. Their work is woven into every part of what we do.

From supporting our team, to managing operations, to shaping how we connect with our community—each of them plays an essential role in creating a space that is thoughtful, responsive, and grounded in care.

We’re incredibly grateful for all that you do, and for the steady, meaningful ways you help make this work possible every single day.

Spring brings more light, more activity, and more stimulation.

In trauma recovery, increased stimulation can amplify nervous system activation — not necessarily increase ease.

If symptoms feel louder in brighter months, it doesn’t mean progress is lost.

Activation is not regression. It’s a nervous system responding to change. 🌱

We adore this beautiful reflection from 💙 - It captures something we hold close in our work: the power of presence.

Therapy isn’t always about solving.
It’s not always about strategies or quick relief.
Sometimes, the most healing thing we can offer is presence.
A steady, compassionate partner who’s willing to sit with what hurts—without judgment, without fear, without turning away.

In a world that often rushes past pain or tries to silence it, being seen is radical.
Being met in your pain with compassion and steadiness? That can change everything.

At CPER, we don’t promise quick fixes.
But we do promise this: we won’t look away.
