Trish Hartman, Doula

Trish Hartman, Doula A doula provides physical, emotional, and knowledge support during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period. I specialize in breastfeeding support.

I am a certified birth and postpartum doula. If you need support while breastfeeding, please call or text me at 705 543-1040. I will get right back to you. A doula guides your partner to support you and empower you to give birth the way your body is meant to, both at home and in hospital, with midwives and with doctors. A doula shares her education, wisdom and experience to help you with informed

choices about options for birth. During labour, the mother and her partner can be guided to use massage, breath coaching, suggested changes of position to ensure optimal fetal positioning, advocacy, and the use of a variety of relaxing media such as water, music, touch, dancing, singing – whatever works for her. A doula meets you before the birth to assist you and your partner with information and guidance to help prepare for the birth you wish to have.

* “With many doctors and midwives working in group practices, it’s a relief to know there’ll be at least one expert at your birth who you have an ongoing relationship with.” A happy mom. Questions about newborn? Breastfeeding? I also provide support for women and families with breastfeeding and caring for a newborn, even if I wasn’t at your birth. Just call if you need help. serving Midland area, Beausoleil First Nation, Barrie, Orillia, north to Parry Sound

*Research recently published in the American Journal of Managed Care identified another great reason for hiring a doula. Having a doula’s support during childbirth was linked to an almost 60% reduction in the likelihood of a woman giving birth by caesarean section. This figure rises to 80% for non-medically indicated caesarean sections.

If your baby is draining the breast well and is not hurting you, then pumping is most likely NOT the best way to increase your supply. Try switch nursing instead!!

*3 minutes is the maximum timeframe. You might find that switching sooner will work better for you and your baby.

A great infograph on increasing simply…

As humans we are wired to need close proximity to our caregivers. ❤️ The concept of a “nursery” is a cultural influence, not the biological norm.

Keep them close.

Eventually...one of these will work! Always start with the breast first though as 99.9% of the time, that will be the answer. :)

This is called the "koala hold" and can help to encourage your baby to get a deeper latch.

I explain this position (and others) in my book, "All Tied Up! How to keep on boobin' through a tongue tie". Available on all online bookstores including Amazon:

“You’re feeding her just for comfort”.

Yes. Because there is literally nothing as comforting as a breastfeed. ❤️

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. There is no such thing as "watery" milk. Every part of your milk will grow your baby. It's about VOLUME not nutritional composition. Also, research shows you would have to be very malnourished or dehydrated for it to affect the volume of your milk.

Breastfeeding compression, or the “boob squeeze” as I like to call it! This can be helpful to do when you’re breastfeeding a baby who is sleepy or has difficulty removing the milk efficiently and effectively. While they are breastfeeding, squeeze your breast in different places to help encourage the let down. It also helps the milk come out more quickly. This can keep baby interested in feeding and doing more active sucking and swallowing. You can also do this while pumping! ❤️
