SPF measures how well a sunscreen protects your skin from UVB rays, the type of ultraviolet light that causes sunburn and contributes to skin cancer.
UVA rays cause aging and also contributes to skin cancer.
Both UVA and UVB are from the sun.
THIS IS WHY USING A BROADBAND SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN IS IMPORTANT AS IT PROTECTS YOU AGAINST BOTH!!
For example-if your skin would normally burn after 10minutes in the sun, SPF of 30 lets you stay in the sun 30 times longer before burning.
This does not mean you are necessarily protected for 300 minutes as there are factors that influence this, sweatwaterrubbing sunscreen wears off over time
PRO TIPS!
-Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours regardless of influencing factors.
-Use minimum of SPF 30
-Foundation with SPF is just a bonus. It is not enough to use as a sunscreen. Apply foundation after sunscreen or try an Alumier MD sunscreen with beads of mineral make up in it to achieve that visible coverage.
-Reapply after swimming, rubbing or sweating.
-Have sunscreen be a part of your daily routine (like brushing your teeth). Summer and winter.
Play safe and enjoy beautiful skin.
