The UBC midwifery program is looking for parents who are breastfeeding / chestfeeding a baby under 3 months of age. Second year students are learning about latch assessment and adjustments and we are hoping they can learn from real families.
We would need a few hours of your time on Oct 1 for our Victoria and Vancouver sites. A gift card is provided as a thank you. If interested, please contact

Baby Cafe starts again next Tuesday July 9th!

The new and improved drop-in group is open to pregnant people and birthing people with little ones newborn to 12 months.

This group is a safe space for you to come with your feeding and postpartum challenges. Each week we will have a short discussion/teaching topic related to feeding. Both breast-feeders and formula feeders are welcome. The rest of the time will be spent socialising, connecting, and enjoy light refreshments.

The first topic will be “LATCHING FOR SUCCESS”.

Discussion topic will start at 10am each week. You may drop in anytime between 9:30 and 11:30am.

We want to help families from all over BC to access the care and support they need to feed their babies. So we are expanding! We have teamed up with other Midwife-Lactation Consultants from across the province to provide virtual BC-Wide, and MSP covered Lactation Consultations!

The Milk Clinic has been serving families in the South Okanagan for over two years now! As word has gotten out, we have had referrals from farther and farther away! We are just so excited to be able to expand our care to the whole province.

Appointments are covered by MSP from pregnancy to 6+0 weeks after the birth of your baby. A referral is required from a nurse, midwife, physician or social worker.

We look forward to meeting you online!

This is your daily reminder that you can do this! You are doing this! Sometimes we have to take things day-by-day, or feed-by-feed. Sometimes we have to shift our goals. Wherever you are at, we are here to support you. We hear the good, bad and ugly side of postpartum every day and are here to help you balance your mental health with your infant feeding goals.

We often hear about all the cool and wonderful properties of human milk, but many people don't realize that just the act of feeding a baby at the breast/chest has many benefits too!

- When babies latch to a soft breast, rather than a hard ni**le (like a pacifier or bottle) they get a release of oxytocin, giving them feel good hormones, and helping with attachment and bonding.

- Bottles and pacifiers can change the shape of a babies palate, increasing their lifetime risk for sleep apnea, reflux and dental crowding.

- Offering the breast can also be a helpful parenting tool. It is a convenient way to soothe an upset baby, calm a tantrum, and help a baby fall asleep!

I have seen several families this week that are unable to produce very much milk, but are choosing to partially breastfeed to get these benefits!

So even if you produce ZERO drops of milk, there are still some pretty cool reasons to offer the breast!

As always we are here to celebrate you and your feeding journey whatever that looks like. If your baby is not latching, and that is your goal, we are here for you! We also support families to bottle feed human milk or formula and teach you how to do so as physiologically as possible so you can get many of the benefits of latching.

"Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk!" 💧Whoever coined this phrase clearly never tried to pump their own milk!!!
Shout-out to all you mama's and parents working hard for every single drop you collect. We see you and all the work you are doing for your little one. And if you need help, we are here.

While we cant feed spilt milk to our babies, you can rub it into their skin or put it in a bath. And remember, having expressed that milk will still help you to make more. 💖
