Get to know Crystal!
Q: Was a career in physiotherapy always of interest to you?
A: Yes, right out of high school I was accepted into the U of A Physiotherapy program. During high school I had some low back issues and went to physiotherapy. I was very fascinated to learn how the joints
and muscles work and the different techniques the therapist used to help me reduce my pain. I knew I wanted a career working with people and felt Physio was a good option for me. Now 30+ years later my favorite part of my job is direct patient care and meeting so many interesting people.
Q: How do you help patients stay motivated during rehab?
A: To help patients stay motivated I listen to their story, most people actually know what is going on with their bodies they just need to have someone highlight what they are saying and help direct them in a way to achieve their goals. People are likely to stay motivated if you build on something they love doing.
Q: How would you describe your treatment approach in one sentence?
A: Treatment to reach patients' individual goals and set them up for success with the knowledge and direction to overcome their injury.
Q: Is there a particular sport or activity you have extra knowledge in?
A: The sports and activities that I know well include curling, hockey, snowboarding, waterskiing and hiking.
Q: What are some of your favourite things to do outside of clinic hours?
A: Outside the clinic I love spending my time on the water with my family, walking my dog, riding my mountain bike with friends and travelling.
