Get to know Denise!

Q: What inspired you to have a career in physiotherapy?

A: I was always interested in sciences and initially wanted to do medicine. After injuries in university and spending time in a physiotherapy clinic - I was drawn to the rehab arena. Being able to spend more time with patients and the education and exercise based treatment was very aligned with how I felt I could support people.

Q: Do you have a favourite injury to treat?

A: I don’t have a favourite injury, I do have favourite areas - the shoulder and the hip are my top 2 and always rewarding to assess and support people in having solutions to feel better in those two joints.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you give almost every patient?

A: Be patient (easier said than done), strength and durability take time to build and sprinkle opposites in your day to rinse postural tension ☺️

Q: What’s a common rehab myth you wish more people knew the truth about?

A: There are no quick fixes and straightening and physical movement should be a life long habit

Q:When you're not in clinic, what are you up to?

A:I love to hang out with my daughter and her family especially 22 month old Magnus💕 I also can be found hiking, running, disc golfing, standup paddling, and singing. Grateful for my life here in Naramata and Penticton.

March is Nutrition Month!
Fuel Your Recovery, Fuel Your Movement

Physiotherapy and exercise help your body heal, strengthen, and move better — but the other half of the equation happens in the kitchen.

🥕Nutrition supports healing – Protein, vitamins, and minerals give your body the building blocks it needs to repair tissues after injury.

🥕 Healthy eating boosts energy – The right fuel means you can complete your exercises with strength and focus.

🥕Balanced diets reduce inflammation – Choosing whole, nutrient-dense foods can help reduce swelling and speed recovery.

🥕Strong muscles need strong bones – Calcium, vitamin D, and other nutrients keep your musculoskeletal system resilient.

Tip: Pair your rehab program with nutrient-rich meals to get the best results from your physio sessions. Think lean proteins, colourful vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats.

📍 Ask your physiotherapist about exercises and lifestyle tips to complement your nutrition goals this month!

5 Ways to Stick to Your New Habits, Goals, or Resolutions (and How Physiotherapy Can Help)

1. Set realistic, specific goals

Example: Instead of “I’ll exercise more,” try “I’ll walk 20 minutes after work three days a week.”

Physio’s role: A physiotherapist can assess your current fitness, mobility, and any limitations, then help you set safe, achievable milestones.

2. Create a routine you enjoy

Fun beats willpower — choose activities you look forward to.

Physio’s role: They can design a personalized program with exercises you find engaging while still targeting your health goals.

3. Track your progress

Keep a simple journal, app, or photo log so you can see improvements over time.

Physio’s role: Regular physio check-ins provide measurable progress reports on strength, flexibility, and pain reduction.

4. Plan for setbacks

Life happens — having a plan keeps you from quitting when routines get disrupted.

Physio’s role: If injury, pain, or fatigue slows you down, physiotherapy can adapt your plan so you keep moving safely instead of stopping altogether.

5. Build accountability

Share your goals with friends, family, or a group.

Physio’s role: Your physiotherapist becomes a built-in accountability partner, monitoring your consistency and adjusting your plan as you improve.
