dōTERRA® and the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® have been fighting human trafficking since 2016 when the company was introduced to rescue opportunities through organizations, including O.U.R., which helped us understand the exigent crisis and the ability to make a difference. As awareness has grown about the horrific realities of both s*x and labor trafficking in the United States and globally, solutions continue to develop through a variety of public and private organizations and resources.
Q: I noticed that Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) is no longer on the Healing Hands website. Has dōTERRA stopped working with them?
dōTERRA® and the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® no longer have a working relationship with Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) or any active project with them. Instead, we have chosen to partner with another organization that is more effective and better aligns with our vision in working with local enforcement and qualified groups to end child exploitation.
Q: Has dōTERRA funded Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) in the recent past? What did the funding go towards?
The dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation funded operations and tools for trained experts in domestic and international law enforcement agencies that focus on human trafficking. Some of the funding was routed through O.U.R. based on developed and trusted relationships at the time with law enforcement offices. doTERRA was often closely involved with the use of these funds, and is confident that the results were impactful, and lives were blessed. No request for O.U.R. is being considered presently.
Q. Is fighting human trafficking still a dōTERRA priority?
Yes! dōTERRA is very passionate as a corporate leader in the fight against human trafficking through pure business practices and expert-led collaboration. While dōTERRA ensures that its global botanical network of small-scale farmers and harvesters are treated ethically – minimizing the risk of labor trafficking, dōTERRA Healing Hands has expanded its support to many more domestic and global organizations and projects. Over the years, dōTERRA and dōTERRA Healing Hands have naturally been led to solutions in prevention, rescue, and aftercare, which resulted in the 2020 launch of our comprehensive HOPE model.
Q. What is HOPE and how does it help in the fight against human trafficking?
HOPE is a comprehensive model to fight human trafficking through prevention, rescue and aftercare solutions.
Prevention includes education and protecting our most vulnerable.
Rescue includes the support of task forces, law enforcement, and trained experts who have dedicated their lives to human trafficking rescue operations.
Aftercare includes the support of safe and comprehensive trauma-informed care that leads survivors to self-sufficiency.
