The followup visits to a chiropractor are different than the initial assessment. We've already done the lions share of investigating what's going on, now we're going to try and manage it.
These appointments are 15-30 minutes in legnth, depending on the number of complaints you have, the complexity of the issues, and if we will be using any modalities or doing any exercises.
At the beginning of each visit I'll ask for an update to your condition: is it the same, better, or worse than the last time I saw you?
-is you pain less frequent, is it less intense?
-has your range of motion improved?
-do you feel stronger?
-can you complete certain tasks with more ease?
We'll then put your money where your mouth is by assessing what you've told me. We'll recheck your posture, strength, range of motion, etc. to see how it's changed since we did the assessment and from week to week. As well as using the deficiencies to guide our treatment.
Then we'll get to treatment. I always work on muscles before I adjust / manipulate joints. It results in less force for the adjustment to work, and helps the joints function better.
I mostly use a vibracussor (silimar to a massage gun) to work on soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments). But I also use instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), manual release technique (MRT), and acupuncture.
When I adjust I use a combination of manual adjustments, drop piece adjustments with the assistance of the chiropractic table, and an arthostim (an electric impact 'hammer'). Since there are a variety of options, we can discuss what you're most comfortable with as manual adjustments aren't for everyone and that's ok.
We then end the appointment with a little bit of homework based on what we've found that day, or a reminder to do the exercises that I know you've been neglecting. 😉
