Historically, individuals with lived experience have been excluded from professional spaces, even though the evidence overwhelmingly supports peer work making positive change. Addiction does not discriminate, so why do we? Why do we see addiction experience as a shameful thing to hide - especially in areas where we work with people using substances? It is time we consider that our life experiences build resiliency and hope, and use these experiences to build that capacity both individually and in our community.
